We stayed at the Protea Hotel Mafikeng from the 13th/14th July 2008. My party consisted of two adults and two children (aged 9 and 7 years). The purpose of our visit to Mafikeng was to visit sites associated with the famous siege of 1899/1900. The Protea Hotel is not situated in the town centre but is reasonably close. It appears to be a new property and has a modern and upmarket feel to it. Parking is secure.
We only stayed for one night, which in hindsight was a mistake because I quickly grew to like the establishment. We stayed on a Sunday night and it was quite apparent that the hotel was far from full. I formed the impression that the hotel caters mostly for business type people. The children did make use of the outdoor pool even though the water was freezing.
In the evening we were practically the only diners at the Mafika Restaurant, Protea Hotel Mafikeng. We ordered from the enticing menu only to be informed that some items were not available. I...
