Great hotel, can't really fault it. Location - perfect, 5 mins (very safe) walk to the Waterfront which is full of shops, bars and restaurants - we were worried about how safe we'd feel at night in Cape Town but we felt absolutely fine in this area Rooms - good city centre hotel, nice and clean, well furnished, serviced twice... more

I stayed 18 days in the hotel for business with a colleague. Given the amount of money our stay has cost, I can not say it is good value for money. As with previous stays in Cape Town, I was looking for a hotel that was not too overpriced and yet in the Waterfront area. Unfortunately, most hotels were full,... more

My wife and I have just returned from seven nights at the Portswood in Cape Town and what a fantastic stay it was. We arrived late after a six hour delay from the U.K. and were greeted by helpful, cheery staff who had us booked in within minutes. The rooms were absolutely fine, good air-con, mini bar, room safe and... more

We stayed at The Portswood for 2 nights at the end of a week long holiday in Cape Town, and we were impressed. First of all, it is ideally located opposite the V&A Waterfront, which is very important in a city where the streets aren't completely safe to walk around. The service we received was also very good. The staff... more

This was my first trip to Cape Town and and I was particularly concerned about security but I found the Portswood to be an excellent choice in all respects. The hotel was not just conveniently located, but there was also plenty of security in and around the building, and you only have to turn left and walk down the steps... more

The PortsWood probably deserves a five star rating--for the location and friendly staff. The room wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. The location is hard to beat--just two blocks from the V&A waterfront. Cape Town is truly the most spectacular in the world--and the PortsWood is a good place to stay. You can walk around the waterfront without fear... more

The big feature of this hotel is the location - great, just 100 meters from the waterfront area in Cape Town, very convenient for dining in the evening and shopping at the big shopping centre there. (Downtown is not so nice for a tourist stay, very business district). But be aware that hotel prices in Cape Town have gone off... more

We stayed at Portswood hotel over last X'mas. And even though it is a slightly older hotel compared to many others along the waterfront, it exudes much charm and coziness. The staff were also friendly and very helpful (stark contrast to our experience at Hilton in Joburg) There was a slight boo-boo when we checked in after a long day... more

Just back from the busy centre of the Victoria & Albert Harbour bars and restaurants is the lovely quiet Portswood Hotel. Nice big rooms with great amenities (particularly loved the cooling peppermint foot cream) and an easy walk to the action on the waterfront. Service was impeccable and the doorman greeted us by name every time we passed. The restaurant... more

Very friendly, approachable and professional staff. Good breakfast. Very conveniently located near to the waterfront. The rooms are like an upmarket Travel Lodge (UK), clean, flat screen tv with everything you need but not super luxurious. We were upgraded to a suite as we were on honeymoon. Would recommend this hotel. Cape Town is stunning! more
