The Protea is not bad a property and the rooms are quite clean and neat, so is the property. It's location is perhaps the greatest of all it's assets. However, the hotel lacks good facilities. It doesn't have a gymnasium or spa nor an in-house laundry room. The swimming pool too is a sorry excuse (you can only swim lenthwise... more

We had prebooked this hotel through a travel agent in South Africa. We were given a smoking room on the 4th floor on arrival, despite a request about 6 weeks before for a nonsmoking floor. The manager asked us to stay one night and she would get us a nonsmoking room the next day. I told her that it was... more

We booked an 8-day stay in Feb 2009. M=58yrs;F=57yrs. Everything went well - until we were both struck-down with a gastric illness that meant we had to VERY near the toilet for 48 hours. Not food-related but a bug that was 'going-around the city' whilst we were there. Hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful and supportive. They sent someone... more

We stayed four nights here in one of their very comfortable loft apartments which I would thoroughly recommend. It was very useful to have the self-catering facilities, fridge etc as it meant we could do our own thing for breakfast at a much reduced cost and, not eat so much! We used the dining room several times in the evening... more

An average hotel, rooms are standard, meals are OK, service is good. The best thing: it is located 100 m from Restaurant Beluga. more

Great base for our holiday, we were on the 2nd floor facing the road; there wasn’t much of a view and the traffic did filter through during the day. The room was very clean and every time we returned to our room it was tidied up, on one occasion I had dropped my money (about £100 equivalent rand) without realising... more

Just had a workshop/conference here and had a great experience. The hotel staff were great, very accomodating, quick to respond, and friendly. The location is also good, just a short walk to the waterfront area as well as the Cape Quarter and Waterkant area. Really no complaints and found it was good value, at least for holding a conference. Breakfasts... more

Not the place to be if on holiday - had previously been on Safari in Kruger and coming here for the second leg of our trip made us feel stressed. Close to the waterfront (hotel shuttle available) and good proximity to City. Great if staying for business but not for pleasure. more

We were staying in Winchester Mansions over Christmas and I discovevered that I had inadvertently booked for only 5 instead of 6 nights. We asked them to try to keep us for the 6 nights but meantime we booked Victoria Junction for the night of 29th December just in case. On 26th Winchester Mansions informed us that we were ok... more

This hotel is a great base for exploring Cape town just 5 mins from V&A waterfront. We went for a suite on the top floor - two levels - lounge and bedroom - even included an exercise bike and great coffee machine! Air conditioning could have been better and the room had clearly been used by smokers but other than... more
