Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's been almost five years since we were there, but it still remains one of the nicest B&B stays in our travels. Dirk and the staff really made us feel welcome, even as our schedule didn't quite fit with the normal flow of the guests (we were in a bit of a party mood, coming back quite late from the Waterkant and sleeping late as well). The breakfast tray was adjusted based on our timing and preferences, which we really appreciated - and didn't even have to ask for. Parking was easy in the protected lot behind the facility. Perhaps the most wonderful memory was right when we arrived - after the long flight from Amsterdam (via Jo'burg), we were up for a nap. So we opened the windows, including the door to our little terrace. A wonderful breeze picked up as a storm rolled in. Between the smell of the air, the comfortable beds and the general comfort of the space, we had the most amazing naps ever. We still talk about them. We chose 17 on Loader because of the location and were thrilled to have landed here. I have happily recommended it to other friends visiting Cape Town and hope to return in the future.

Response from ManageThree, Owner at 17 on Loader Guest House
Responded 30 Nov 2015
Hi there, Many thanks for your kind message, and review. Just a quick update:- The Guest House, known as 17 on Loader Guest House, closed its doors in 2012. And Dirk and his Team left with its closure back then. TripAdvisor has been informed of this fact on numerous occasions, but have not responded, nor taken down this page. Your review must relate to the new business, which is totally unrelated to this TripAdvisor page. Regards

OMG. I have seen many guesthouses (pensions like we call it) but this one beats them all. I must have been one of the first that stayed in the new place. Perfect beds, large rooms, wifi, the whole building is full of design stuff. Fantastic breakfast and free smoothies and brilliant wine (a local find, Stanford Hills - worth checking them out also on a two hour drive to Stanford). Not to forget the rooftop, where you can see the Table Mountain and oversee the city plus harbor. Normally I stay at very good hotels, but next time I will definitely stay with Willy and Roderick. Thank you for a perfect experience!

I had a pleasant stay at 17 on Loader. The beds are comfy the rooms are relatively spacious and the environment is peaceful. I would definitely consider 17 on Loader again in the future and have already recommended it to some friends of mine. Thank you.

It's been a while since this trip but I just came across the photos and I wanted to give Dirk and his guest house the recognition it deserves . Let me start by saying its in an amazing location. Also it's a short walk from bars, restaurants, gyms, and the mighty waterfront ( where u take the ferry to Robbin Island)- u also have a view of Table Mountain( it's a gorgeous backdrop especially on the rooftop patio ) . It's clean , well- run, and it makes the African trip so much more " authentic " then just an ordinary hotel room . For the value , the location , the service .. U won't find better .

I had to cram 3 days & 2 nights of sightseeing, shopping and partying in cape town. 17 on loader was a great place to unwind after each day - Great location - walking distance from Long street, lovely view of table mountain and the city from the roof top... Would definitely go back...

Clean rooms, great location to all the Die Waterkant restaurants and bars. They could do with a little more attention to service.

I stayed in a previous guest house which was supposedly one star higher, but I found 17 on Loader to be very modern, clean and with very good facilities. It is also located in a great location with commanding views from the roof top terrace. I received a pre-arrival email from Ben the live in Manager which was very professional and upon greeting me on arrival, confirmed that the service was well above par. Small touches made a difference, such as a fully stocked shared kitchen with honesty system and a very good breakfast with freshly cooked bread and a basket placed outside your door in the morning. I travel frequently and have been genuinely impressed.

I actually arrived sick at the guesthouse and we had booked room 17 C which doesn't have external windows and no air-conditioning. The room is very small and feels a little claustrophobic. The staff was very attentive and Benjamin tried his best to get us another room as we had booked for four nights. He actually managed to get us the nicest and biggest room, 19 A, for the last two days and even apologized with a bottle of champagne that he couldn't move us earlier. That was very sweet and we actually very much enjoyed our stay despite the sickness. The idea of finding your breakfast basket in front of the room was nice every morning, but unfortunately there was very little in the basket and there wasn't any extra bread. We usually had a second breakfast outside. There is free, safe parking behind the guesthouse, which is very handy as parking is sparse in Waterkant. Unfortunately you have to pay for wifi. As there are plenty of cafes and restaurants with free wifi we didn't use that service. Big compliments to the staff and a special thanks to Benjamin.

We stayed at this guest house for 2 nights in July, 2011. The hotel was recommended to us by a friend from Pretoria. The hotel was perfect. It was very conveniently located in a fun and interesting central neighbourhood. Our room was pretty and beautifully decorated. In fact, the whole hotel was beautiful, clean, and quiet. Derek, the owner, was gracious and helpful. A breakfast basket is left by your door in the morning, which you can take up to the roof-top patio and enjoy the glorious view of the ocean and Table Mountain. Breafast was simple but good. I would definitely stay here again.
