Arrived late in De Kelders with no place to stay and came across this amazing lodge. We took the last couple of rooms and quickly located to the great deck for a glass of sauvignon blanc. The whales did not disappoint although we were close to the end of the season. Watching them both in the evening and morning so... more

First, be sure you do not want to be in the middle of Hermanus. This hotel in abut 45kms. from Hermanus in the village of De Kelders, a very sleepy little community of holiday homes. It is on the ocean, looking across Walker Bay to Hermanus. There are no shops and very few restaurants. You will love this hotel if... more

The address given on this website is wrong - this lovely lodge is in De Kelders, near Gansbaai, and a 45 min drive from Hermanus. That said, it is in a stunning location and you can indeed watch the whales from your room. Our room was lovely, comfortable and very quiet. The road outside is also very quiet and lovely... more

Arriving in De Kelders at the end of the whale watching season, we didn't really expect to see whales (so many people that we met in Hermanus had not seen any) so we were amazed when we arrived at Whale sanctuary Lodge to find a mother & calf in the bay right at the foot of the hotel & after... more

This lodge with its service was easily the best during our entire trip through South Africa. The lodge is just beautiful with modern, bright and elegant rooms and with a comfortable and very spacious lobby. The views from the hotel and every single room are breathtaking with more whales than we could count at any point in time. A special... more

The Whale Sanctuary Lodge was one of the best lodges we met during our holidays in South Africa. Rooms are all beautiful, view from the windows is stunning and even the restaurant had an incredible offer. We couldn't have been luckier. more

De Kelders is a much better spot than Hermanus, and the Whale Sanctuary has to be one of the very best boutique hotels. Very relaxing, food is excellent and whales a-plenty. What else does one need? more

My husband and I stayed in the Orca Room at Whale Sanctuary Lodge, what a fantastic room with an unbelieveable view. The room was massive and so elegantly decorated. We had unrestricted views of the bay and whales. On our last morning we had a mother and albino calf not 50 metres from our balcony. How awesome is that. Certainly... more

We arrived late evening due to public holiday traffic and the whalefest at Hermarnus so were a little grumpy as the normal 90 min drive had taken us 260 mins. Well, that's what happens when you leave Capetown in Friday night rush hour with a public holiday weekend. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our beatiful room before going... more
