Located just off of the Praca da Republica in Tomar, Residencial Luz offers basic accommodation for budget-minded travellers. I wasn't expecting much for 32.50 Euros for a double ensuite...and didn't get much, either, but most travellers in this region will be happy with clean (but old) beds, a tiny (but fully functional) bathroom, and pleasant staff for a budget price. Rooms aren't exactly clean, and the interior of the residencial is pretty shabby, but the property does have its own odd charm that goes some way to dispel the feeling that you're staying in a flophouse.
The location of the hotel really can't be beat, as it's just off of the town's main square and within a 1/2 hour walk of all of the town's major points of interest. Front-facing rooms have lovely views of the Praca (and, if you turn your head, the ramparts of the Convento) and the streets below; back rooms are quieter, which is something to consider given the fact that street noise interrupted our sleep until...
