Although we wery not particularly impressed by the city BA, this hostel was great. We had a private double room which was nicely decorated and absolutely worth the money. Portal del Sur isn't the cheapest or wildest hostel in Buenos Aires (the rate for a single room was comparable to some hotels) but it's one of the friendliest. It's very well located and the the common areas (the upstairs bar and breakfast room) really lend themselves well to meeting other like-minded travelers, which was a real plus for me... more
