We loved it at Portal del Sur. We had room 401, a double with private bathroom. It was lovely with large window overlooking the street (which of course did contribute to road noise of a night if window was open) We slept with window closed. Room was tastefully decorated, TV, reading lights, very cosy. The shower was small and water... more

What I liked the best about Portal del Sur were: 1. Location: very close to 2 subway (Subte) lines, and walking distance to others. Also, lots of people about at night in this area, so felt okay walking back after dark. 2. General atmosphere: you could be as social as you wanted, or as un-social as you wanted, and it... more

My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in April. We loved the hostel. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. The rooftop bar was a great place to meet people over drinks or breakfast. Free internet was good too. Our twin room with private bathroom was more than adequate for our needs but it did overlook a... more

We stayed at Portal del Sur for 3 nights in a matrimonial room with private bath before moving on to the Patagonia portion of our trip. PROS: --fantastic location... tons of neat places to walk to. if not, taxis were incredibly cheap. --heavy on the carbs (all cereals and breads) but having a breakfast option was great. eating it outdoors... more

Although we wery not particularly impressed by the city BA, this hostel was great. We had a private double room which was nicely decorated and absolutely worth the money. The roof terrace is nice and a good place for meeting other people. Breakfast is simple but ok. Staff is friendly. Hostel is located close to Plaze de Mayo. more

I loved this hostel! The private rooms were a very nice surprise - beautiful, clean, private ensuite with a balcony. The rooftop terrace has a bar and is a great place to meet people. The hostel offers free activities. We did the tango lessons and had a great time! The staff are very friendly, and breakfast is included. The only... more

We stayed here for a total of 9 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The staff are really friendly and helpful. There are activities like Mate tasting, jam sessions etc and they have their own travel agency. The rooms are clean, the beds comfy, the showers are hot and powerful - at all times of the day and the kitchen... more

Portal del Sur isn't the cheapest or wildest hostel in Buenos Aires (the rate for a single room was comparable to some hotels) but it's one of the friendliest. It's very well located and the the common areas (the upstairs bar and breakfast room) really lend themselves well to meeting other like-minded travelers, which was a real plus for me... more
