Wanting only an inexpensive room for night for my cycle trip through Prescott I ended up with The American Motel after reading a slam at the Senator Inn (where I stayed my honeymoon many a moon ago. It was.. underwhelming, but the marriage stood it.). Reviewer finished review by recommending American as proper "one-star motel". Faint Praise? Even so I took a chance.
Manager was helpful with helping me keep cycle safe and placed me in central, best lighted area, recently renovated. Room was clean, bigger that expected with firm king size bed, good tv and overall more than I expected for 53$ weekend price. No question this is an old motel as are most on Gurley street row. Quirks include painted over rear windows, bits of rust in old cabinets that apparently were part of once kitchenette and paint beginning to flake off painted bathtub(!) and for which a stopper could not be had.
