The check-in process is all remote which isn't a bad thing at all, just something to know. The location is right off of their main drag and we were able to walk to just about everywhere in town we wanted to stay in our brief visit. The beds were comfortable and we really enjoyed the retro vibe of the place. They offer to provide some beverages prior to check-in which was nice, even though we didn't take advantage of them. It's a nice, cool place to stop and rest as you're exploring one of the coolest places around.

I do not give 5 stars very often but this property deserves it. It is older, built in the 1950's, but it is clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you have a lot of electronics to plug in and charge, you may want to charge your phones/ tablet/ etc. in the car instead of in your room. At least in my room, there were only 2 outlets in the entire room and they both had surge protector strips plugged in. No pool, jacuzzi, or room service, but location, location, location!!!!! You can't do any better than here! As stated before, it is an older property, and it does not have alot of amenities, but if you are looking for a place to sleep, shower, recharge, and cool off in a great location with reasonable rates than this is for you! I highly recommend!

This cute motel is just a short walking distance from many shops and restaurants in Sedona. The room was cozy with a very soft mattress and each side of the bed had a firm and soft pillow. It was like sleeping on a cloud. The check-in service was great, we were getting in late and received a text with our room code, wi-fi password, and suggestions for what to do while in Sedona before we arrived.
This motel is located about a mile down the road from some beautiful Sedona hiking. With parking being so scarce at trailheads in Sedona it was great to be able to park at the hotel and hike for the small price of a couple miles added to the trip.

After reading the reviews I wasn’t sure what we were getting into, but honestly it’s a cute Family ran business. My husband and I when traveling like to make sure we put our money into the locals of an area and try to avoid chain places as much as possible.
Star Motel is perfect if your fine with no frills, they are in a great location surrounded by shops and restaurants, we were able to walk around and leave our vehicle parked at the motel. We had to check in late and they were nice enough to call earlier in the afternoon to check in with us and make sure we were all set.
*Free WiFi, Flat screen TV in our room too.
*Yeah it’s an older motel, but they have definitely worked to update it. We recommend asking for room #10, we stayed in this room and it was super clean. Air conditioning works great! And it is quiet and has a nice view. Also, has its own kitchen space.

They only have 10 rooms on the top of the hill in Sedona. But everytime we pulled in our car we were thankful for the location and how we could walk to dinner, lunch or shopping. And we hot to our room up top we were thankful for the space, the view and the king size bed. For the value, the location of this newly rethought and rethought motel by this California couple who recently bought it is great. I hope they dont raise the prices too much as they improve it because we will definitely come back!

Our goal is to provide a wonderful stay at a reasonable price, forever. We are constantly upgrading the details and amenities, in our journey towards being the best that we can be. Best to remember the larger pricing currents in Sedona; Spring and Fall are the busiest and most expensive times to visit. Average room rates then are $550 in Sedona. summer and winter are the slower times, and prices are always much lower. Sedona is always beautiful, and if you haven't seen the red rocks covered in snow yet, I highly recommend it. It is a seasonal town for tourism, so best rates are always summer / winter.

I booked on Expedia based on the good reviews and when I got there, went into the office and found out that there was no one working at the motel. I had to wait to get a code to check in via email. Waited, waited, went shopping, and finally made a few phone calls and finally got the code. Went back to the motel and checked out the room. It was marginally clean, killed a few bugs but was going to stay anyway. We went out to dinner (location was the only plus about this motel). When we got back from dinner, we could not lock our door. I tried again and again, and could not get it to lock. In addition to the electronic lock not working, there was no lock inside the door as every motel/hotel I've ever stayed in has as a security measure so that a hotel/motel employee would not barge in on you at any moment. As I am a single mom, with 2 daughters, I felt extremely unsafe. This motel is on ground level, and anyone could have come in at any moment. we called the number for the "virtual front desk" and I was speaking with a woman who said she was in California so she wasn't even sure if she could get someone from maintenance to check out the lock for us. I told her I felt unsafe and asked if we could get a refund and leave. She was actually very pleasant and said that would be okay. She even offered to help me find an other place to stay, and I said I would book something else on Expedia. We took our belongings and left. We had not touched the beds or anything. We did wash our hands in the bathroom, so probably used a hand towel or two.
The next morning I received an email saying that they were charging me for the stay because they were able to lock the door. I was not imagining that I could not lock the door!! It was a huge inconvenience to have to leave and get a new room.

Painful to have to read this negativity Lisa. This is the exact opposite vibe that we look to cultivate at The Star, which attracts a community of nice people seeking the beauty of Sedona in a safe, clean space, and at a value. Clean rooms with new amenities, best location in town, no hidden fees and a convivial atmosphere of travelers and repeat guests. Casual, kind and beautiful. Quick explanation on working a door knob: from the inside, you turn the lock button in middle of the handle to either lock it or unlock it. While you are inside, in either position, if you turn the handle on inside it will always open. That does not mean it is always unlocked. This is standard on most door handles, and keeps you from being locked INSIDE your room. From the outside, when the inside lock button is set to lock, the handle will turn but not open the door. When it is set to unlock, the handle will turn and open the door. If you are worried about if the door is locked or unlocked, simply test it with the door open; try turning the handle from outside in both positions, and leave it on the setting where it is locked from outside. This is exactly what happened to you during your stay; your door worked perfectly, you didn't understand how it works, we explained it to you, you refused to listen and caused your own disturbance which negatively effected both you and us. Best words of advice are to walk gently on this planet with compassion, and you will find compassion returned to you. Conflict is almost always unnecessary and avoidable, as it was in this instance. Best of luck to you in the future.

This is an older motel, mid-century modern, with a ton of charm located in the center of Uptown. The woman who checked us in was lovely and gave a very good recommendation for breakfast. We loved that we could walk to restaurants and shopping. The view from the hotel was stunning, especially at sunset. The room had everything we needed including a very comfortable king bed, chairs, table, microwave, fridge, etc..Plus we could park right in front of our door. This motel is not for those who need high end luxury. It is for those who want great location, value and retro charm. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will stay here again.

My sister and I stayed at the ten room Star Motel for one night. It is located in the heart of uptown Sedona. We walked 423 feet to the Cowboy Club Grill for dinner. We walked 450 feet to the HP Grill for breakfast. We window-shopped at lots of nearby shops and cafes. The motel was modestly furnished at $200/night. Our room was very quiet even though in the center of Uptown Sedona. We drove to nearby Slide Rock State Park. We drove to arts and crafts and restaurant center Tlaquepaque, where the parking is decent. We drove to the Sedona Historic Museum, where there is ample parking. Otherwise, we left the car at the Star Motel. Parking in tourist-packed Sedona is difficult, so we were happy to leave the car at the motel and walk. In October my husband and I have booked another stay because the location of the Star Motel is so convenient. Don’t stay at this motel if you want a great view of the red rock stone formations in Sedona. I will try to post photos.

Thanks for staying with us Lynn! Yes, red rock view abound from The Star, but everything that you might need is within short walking distance (including Jordan Trailhead, which is world class hiking just up our street). Hope to see you again!

Check-in was very efficient with the friendly front-desk clerk already expecting us. Although not too large, the room was just right for a two night stay. Most importantly it was immaculately clean and in good repair. It was great having a fridge and microwave. Everything worked fine. We spoke with the owner the following day. She gave us a map of the area and pointed out the places that would most interest us that have easy access. The motel is centrally located with many shops and restaurants nearby. We would certainly stay here again and highly recommend this motel to anybody seeking a reasonably priced place to stay that is clean, well kept, centrally located, and with a very friendly and helpful staff.

I got caught in some weather so needed to stay in Sedona not just ride thru. Occupancy levels were high so my hotel options limited and so booked The Star Motel as did not have many options. Wow what a fortuitous situation for me. This motel is great and the staff are superb. The rooms are very tastefully decorated, like the exterior itself, in what I call “desert quirk” or more truthfully “desert chic”. Checkin is on line, the door locks/unlocks with your ownpersonal code. Each room has one designated parking place (so if you have two vehicles one has to park elsewhere). The motel is in the middle of everything and so walking to activities us dead easy. The staff, Mia whom I spoke to, is very responsive and they also make reccos on nearby restaurants. It was a great experience and the question I always ask myself, would I stay at The Star Motel again if I was in the area? In this case, oh yes I would!
