The resort has the best location site and view of Drake Bay. It was one of the first resorts on the peninsula. They are in the process of modernizing the cabins and ours included a/c. The staff were as nice as any I've ever encountered. Their willingness to go out of their way to make you feel at home was... More

I spent four days at this resort with high school buddies during our Sophomore year, and looking back at the pictures from the trip recently compelled me to find the website and leave a review. I am now a college Junior and hope to visit back again. Why? Well, for short, I had a magical experience here my first visit.... More

A girlfriend and I stayed here for 6 days in mid January 2013. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained, the food was always deliciously prepared with friendly staff, not all of them speak English. You'll always meet someone new in the dining room. The owner, Marleny, is a good Tico business woman who is also kind-hearted. She runs a... More

My husband, 14 year old son and I spent 3 blissful nights here in April. It was a great, stress free experience; from the information gathering stage to the boat taxi when we departed at the end of our stay. The staff speaks great English, and provided every piece of information we needed. Our first day, they coordinated an amazing... More

Drake Bay Wilderness Resort is more than just lodging for a few days, it is hospitality at its best and most genuine form, and undoubtedly the best option to stay in Drake Bay. They take pride in hosting, assisting us with all types of logistics or hooking us with with their personal friends to arrange everything and anything we needed.... More

What a fabulous place! So peaceful and tropical. We were there on spring break and even though there were plenty of kids around, it still felt peaceful and quiet. Because of the communal experience, all the guests were very friendly and sociable. The staff was great, the beaches are beautiful and there are many tours to take from there. The... More

My wife and me stayed the last 4 nights of our 3-weeks trip to Costa Rica in this resort. We loved it from the very first moment. Although not cheap and although the rooms could need some renovation we have enjoyed every single minute. The view and the location was just spectacular. The food was excellent and especially the service,... More

Its a perfect mix of adventure (the flight to Drake Bay + the 4x4 to the river + the river launch to the resort) and relaxation (beach side private lodges, the sounds and sights of the ocean and rainforest)! I can highly recommend this resort to anyone traveling with a group, or as a couple's retreat, or for the single... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Since it was founded in 1985, Drake Bay Wilderness Resort has continued to be a family run business. Our focus has been to take good care of our guests so that they'll feel right at home. We try to be as flexible as possible, taking into consideration people´s needs and we do our very best to fulfill special requests. For instance, we will prepare meals for special diets. Furthermore, the hotel is situated in one of the most beautiful locations in the area. It has large open areas with a bounty of beautiful flowers, tropical plants, big mango trees, and beach almond trees that attract the raucous macaws. The property gives you the feel of being in a private island since the river flows along the backside of the property and the whole front side meets the ocean. In addition to this, most visitors come to us by boat and the access by land to the hotel is a small path, unreachable by car, that is submerged in a jungle. Best of all, there is a paradise like view of the bay and ocean, reflecting the deep blue sky and, beyond that, hills bound in lush forests. We offer all sorts of extras that help make our guests' stay more comfortable and enjoyable. For example, we include a full laundry service. Kayaks close to the water are always at our guests' disposal. We have a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, dock, and hammocks to relax under the shade of a tree with the cool ocean breeze blowing on you. From our hotel we take guests on adventures in snorkeling, hiking, diving, canoeing and whale watching. Visitors often see four species of monkeys, sloths, tapir, caiman and a myriad of birds, including the scarlet macaw, mangrove hawk, toucan... ... more   less
