Our stay in the sabalo lodge was realy unexpected but turned out to be our most fun stay during our trip in CR. There is much wildlife in the garden of the lodge(every morning monkeys eating in the trees), scarlet macaws, toucans ... The rooms are very nice and the food is realy good. We loved the swimming hole and... more

My husband and I choose Sabalo Lodge for our 25th anniversary. We are in our late 40's, with 3 college students. We desired a place that would be quiet, relaxing, intensely tropical, and low key, while at the same time, allowing us to experience the local culture and people. We were not disappointed! Sabalo Lodge is a perfect getaway if... more

This place was amazing! On the trip in from Drake Bay we had our doubts as the mangroves closed in on us, and the stream shallowed, and we just kept going. But what a pleasant suprise at the end of our journy. The place is great because it only can house 3 or 4 couples. The area is full of... more

This is my second review of Sabalo because - yup... you guessed it - I liked it so much, I went back. They still haven't got a power shower, there's no swim up bar, and the nearest restaurant is a long boat ride away. But... and it's a big but... Sabalo has something very, very, special. This place is the... more

We spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica, 7 of those being at Sabalo Lodge. I can't even describe how amazing it was. Dan and Holly went over the top to make our time there personal and unforgettable. They arranged several day trips for us, including horse back riding, an educational trip to a Tico home, and farm. A trip to... more

Sabalo lodge is the most secluded, peaceful, and naturally beatiful place that you can get away from everyday hustle-and-bustle without requiring to speak any other languages than English. We (a late-forties couple with two college kids) took a hiking to a waterfall and horse back riding. Both activities imposed us some challenges, beautiful views and a lot of fun -... more

Sabalo lodge is in a tiny remote town along the Sierpe river between the towns of Sierpe and Drake Bay. This place is far removed from the toursist hustle and bustle. The owners can help arrange a trip that combines some time at their lodge with time in one of the beachfront cabins near Drake Bay/Corcovado Park. We loved our... more

In mid-July I spent six days at the Sabalo Lodge with the owners, California expats Dan & Holly Pesta. Its a very secure environment, so remote that guests must boat in on the beautiful Sierpe River. The Pestas will make all transit arrangements for you. The lodge has large and landscaped grounds. Individual bungalows are well furnished, clean and the... more

Sabalo Lodge is everything the website promises and more. Dan and Holly are fantastic hosts, and their aim is to make your holiday go as smoothly as possible. Nothing is too much trouble, and Dans cooking is almost too good! The variety of activities available makes it suitable for all, and the beautiful surroundings are second to none. Would recommend... more

I recommend Sabalo lodge to anyone. Great people, great food and comfortable digs in the middle of the jungle. Bring the whole family. Within 30 min's the kids were swimming in the river, drinking out of a coconut and loving life. This is a must do trip to see one of the last "wild" places on earth. more
