Isla Verde has some characteristics that might be considered drawbacks. The hotel is definitely "out of the way" (down a dirt path skirting the lake and corn fields). It is rustic (cracks in the floor boards showing the earth below; insects flying and crawling in and out of the room). There are many, many outdoor steep steps between the rooms... more

The hotel is nice enough but i found the staff difficult to deal with. Not very helpful. The cabins are quite a hike up the mountain and are nice but you have very little outside space. No deck. Would not go back. But Santa Cruz is nice and there are a couple of other hotels there to stay in. more

We planned to stay there 2 nights but we ended staying 5! Both the hotel and the location are beautiful, it is an excellent place to relax and to forget the outside world, but you can also do some excursions or swim in the hotels lake beach. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent and not overpriced.... more

I just returned from a wonderful trip to Guatemala, which included a three-night stay at Isla Verde. Isla Verde is such a special place that captures the beauty and diversity of Guatemala. Nestled in the forests along the edge of Lake Atitlan, it is a quiet escape in nature but accessible to everything. We took adventures around the lake each... more

It was a gorgeous location on the lake. The staff was friendly and helpful ... the cabins were very comfortable and we loved the atmosphere. Rustic yet all needed amenities. I highly recommend this hotel. The restaurant was always wonderful. Great value! more

I was let down by Isla Verde. I personally spoke with the owner, Anna, who turned out to be much more interested in her social life than in the guests staying in the hotel. She continuously kept telling the children to swing softer, to not do this not do that ... it was horrible. She lounged around the "beach" with... more

My wife and I spent three absolutely great days and nights at Isla Verde in March. As someone else here has said "they get it exactly right". This could very well be the best place we've ever stayed in our lives (and we've been around). The cabins are totally basic and simple, but that view! And that open-to-nature bathroom concept!... more

We spent three very pleasant days at the eco-lodge Isla Verde In January. The cabins are absolutely stripped-down and basic but very nice, reminding us of someone´s guest cabin at a summer cottage. We had no scary bugs at all so don´t know what a previous reviewer was referring to. (We can only assume that they are not the slightest... more

Situated right on Lake Atitlan, "the most beautiful lake in the world," this hotel is indeed a little slice of heaven. I opted to spend the majority of my vacation here, 5 days and 4 nights, and would have done longer if possible. I stayed in the dorm and expected to have roommates the entire time, but instead I had... more

We stayed there for 3 nights, unfortunately I caught an virus infection in Antigua, so i spent a whole day and night being sick in one of the most beautiful places I been my entire life. The crew of Isla Verde was very helpful and competent. Even if I spent most of the time on and in front of the... more
