In my opinion, this is the best hotel in San Marcos (and I've stayed in a few of them). It's very clean, and comfortable, the staff is friendly, helpful and speak great English, and it has one of the best breakfasts you can find in the area! more
Loved the Mirador suite at Aaculaax. The room, a short trek up some relatively steep steps from (almost all of) the remainder of the hotel, was awesome. The room shares a kitchen and patio with one of the other suites. Up a couple more steps and you enter a living/lounge room with a couple wicker chairs and setee with many... more
In January we stayed for three nights in the Hotel Aaculaax in the Cascada room, which we loved. However, this experience would definitely not be for everyone. San Marcos itself is a seriously alternative community, as you will read in earlier reviews, and Aaculaax is in its own way a seriously alternative hotel with eccentric architecture and a distinct personality.... more
Just 24 hours ago I awoke in Hotel Aaculax in the Mirador Suite. Now I am in 10" of snow and near zero temps! While the experience is still fresh in my mind I will attempt to provide a helpful review for those thinking about booking a stay at this hotel. When we got off the boat no one was... more
my friend and I were backpacking through Guate last year, staying at various hostels and couchsurfing. After spending two nights in San Pedro (waaaay too much of a dirty party town for us), we traveled across the lake and were dropped off on the shores of San Marcos. Home. It was wonderful. I received my Reiki certification there as well.... more
There are two good reasons to arrive at the Aaculaax early: it was almost full when got there (early Nov, so not even high season) and it's extremely difficult to find in the dark! San Marcos has a network of dimly lit footpaths, and most tourists have not heard of Aaculaax. When we did eventually arrive we couldn't get one... more
I used to stay at Aaculax while they were still building, and it was always a joy to see the new stained glass work every time we came. I went back to see the hotel last year (we couldn't get a reservation, so stayed at Posada Schumann, which would be my third choice in San Marcos after Aaculax, then La... more
From their website I knew how exceptional this hotel was. But there is nothing like having been there in person. It is like being transported to some unreal place that only exists in a fantasy. The owners took very great care in creating "the hotel" around the lake. The view from the rooms on to the lake is stunning and... more
Our arrival in San Marcos was dramatic: totally drenched crossing over a very choppy lake in the evening in a way too loaded boat but safe nonetheless. Then our hotel was paradise and our wet clothes did not matter anymore. Aaculaax is like taken out directly of a fairy tale: the rooms are unlike any hotel room I have ever... more
