I really enjoyed my visit to Chateau Cautine and the surrounding countryside, the chateau is stunning and with the pool made it ideal for relaxing, playing games and cooking with friends. i was not that familiar with the local area, but I quicky found that there was a host of interesting activities to do, a highlight was canoing down the rapids on the dordogne, trekking in the dordogne gorges and hiking in the massif central an hour away to the west. The area is also famous for its gastromony and I had one of my best ever French meals sitting outside under the plane trees in Argentat outside the hotel restaurant. There is also a nearby lake for swimming and tennis courts, which was fun, especially with a family. This area seems fairly unspoilt and the local people were very welcoming and tolerant of my attempts with limited French, this made us fell welcome in the region.
