Beautiful - very French hotel. Lovely stylish rooms. Delicious food. Staff were polite and the atmosphere pleasant. Only stayed one night, got there late and left early, but I'd stay there again. Possibly somewhere to overnight if you're driving through France. Not the cheapest, but the area is tres jolie! more

A lovely "inn" experience just 40 minutes outside of Paris, la Bonne Idee is nestled away in the town of St. Jean aux Bois (St. Jean of the Wood). This is a beautiful area of France and the hotel is situated in a quiet village on the edge of a large forest. (So you may want to take walking shoes) The hotel itself is charming and the gardens are a feature and perhaps best experienced sipping a chilled beer on the terrace. We stayed for only one night on our way back from the Dordogne to Zeebrugge ferry. We had rooms in the main building at the side, which had french windows with a Juliet balcony. We stayed at this hotel for two nights over Easter 2006. The hotel may have been renovated since the last reviews because we thought it was just gorgeous. The rooms were very nice. The room we had on the ground floor was nice and in adequation with the price. But, the surprise cames with the restaurant.
