We selected Egilsstadir Guesthouse based on our Rough Guide and after arriving in Elgisstadir and driving around to look at it and a couple other hotels and restaurants. The Guesthouse is an old, restored farmhouse with lots of charm - even the operating barn next door! The room was more spacious than those at nearly all the other hotels we... more

Beautiful hotel similar to a larger Vermont B&B. Old farmhouse has been restored, and the rooms are clean and large. Lake out back was gorgeous! Easily the best breakfast we had on the entire trip. A bit expensive, but worth it! more

GPS took us straight to the door, opposite side of crossroad from N1 filling station. Strange smell of cow shed immediately adjacent to building but if not used to country air then the guesthouse accomodation will make up for it. Beutiful rear to the property, tree lined with grass down to the lake. Absolutely first rate rooms, showers, mine was... more

Absolutely stunning guesthouse in lovely location on the edge of a lake. Our room very large and well presented, with tea, coffee, tv, radio and an iron. Spotlessly clean and with a great view over the lake. The food provided was delicious, both in the evening and the breakfast. It's just a shame that Egilsstaðir is not really somewhere you'd... more

Hello, Very bad surprise to have my booking for 2 rooms cancelled 3 weeks before the scheduled night, so I had to look urgently for another accomodation for a family of 5 in the Egilsstadir area. Tough especially for end of July ! Please check your booking with such place ! more

This is slap dab opposite the middle of the intersection and if you miss it, then you probably are one of the visitors that need a GPS to navigate a ring road! Yes, the hotel is pokey, yes there is no lift, yes the drinks area is a little small but the hotel has charachter and has been renovated. The... more

Really nice place, good dinner. Obviously had a recent refurbishment, shame they didn't add in a lift or at least a less cumbersome staircase. The town is basically just a stopover place so the quality of hotel was important. Apart from the staircase, the only other criticism is that the lounge area was too small to have after dinner drinks... more

We spent one night here, the hotel is on several levels without a lift, so can be quite disappointing if you have heavy luggage. The room was small but clean and with the tv and tea facilities. There was a beautiful view from the window!! There's also a restaurant in the hotel, quite expensive but good and you can check... more

God knows how we found this place! The directions supplied were very poor and the addition of a simple map/plan would have helped. Upon arrival you are 'greeted' by the stench of cow manure and are directed by hand painted signs not to park next to the hotel (this is for staff only). After dragging your bags across the car... more

I spent eleven days in Iceland driving the south coast to Egilsstadir before flying back to Reykjavik. I stayed two nights at Guesthose Egilsstadir. This was my favorite place, which is a tall order considering that I stayed at several great places. The grounds are beautiful with a large courtyard area in the back on the edge of a large... more
