We stayed at the hotel towards the end of our honeymoon in Portugal and were not disappointed. We booked a 2-night package which included dinner at the in-house restaurant - something we would recommend as the food was some of the best we have experienced. The staff were excellent - friendly, knowledgable and helpful. When we arrived we found our... more
We chose this hotel for three reasons: it is one of the few Relais & Chateaux properties in Portugal, it is very well located and it offered an attractive rate during the low season. We had a very nice room overlooking the Roman bridge and the church. One day we went east and visited the Douro Valley. The next day... more
This was the third hotel on our tour and we stayed here for 2 nights, but would definitely have liked to stay for longer. It is a lovely hotel in a very pretty little town. The driveway is narrow and steep so we were very impressed that our minibus managed to squeeze in. The bar and reception areas are very... more
This was by far the best accomodations I have ever had. From the minute we stepped out of the cab, we knew we were in for a treat. The accomodations, the grounds, the staff, the food, the location, and my favorite-the classic and regal cigar lounge/bar at the hotel were all first class. I predict that as more people find... more
We spent one night in Casa Da Calcada on a 6 day trip around Porto and the Douro region. We had nothing booked in advance of going and figured we would just get somewhere along the road. Well the Casa Da Calcada was the nicest of places we found "along the road"!! I am not sure what the standard rate... more
Casa Da Calcada is one of those memorable places that has it all....We were lucky to spend 2nights which also included New Years Eve in this beautiful property located in a town that feels as though the people who live here will never leave... Imagine Christmas Carols piped from the old church ringing throught the cobblestone streets, the fireworks directly... more
Excellent! This hotel is a fantastic relaxing experience! It is located in front of the River Tamega, with excellent views of the old part of the city of Amarante. Conveniently located about 30 minutes from Oporto's airport Sa Carneiro, the hotel was originally built as a palace but has been recently renovated. The check-in process was easy and professional. The... more
Casa da Calçada is an exquisite Relais in the heart of Amarante along the river Tamega and with a direct view of the bridge and Cathedral of Sao Goncalo. This was originally a palace from the 16th century. The ground floor rooms for dining and sitting are beautifully appointed with art and antiques. There is an outdoor terrace and some... more
We had a great experience here, as the hotel upgraded us to a suite, which had a fabulous corner view through 3 giant windows out across the river to the old center of Amarante. The room decorations were very lavish (red velvet, gilded furniture, etc.) and we enjoyed the separate study and huge bathroom. Just check our photos, and you'll... more
