We stayed here one night. It was awesome. The clerk on duty, Mimosa, was fabulous. She gave us a tour of the fort, and she knew so much history about the fort, and the town of Chaves, Portugal. The on-site chapel is amazing, and it has a secret tunnel. more

I got a good rate at their site at the internet. Nice historical monument Hotel with confortable room. I particulary apreciate this kind of historical hotels in old forts and castles, unfortunatly expensive. The Forte S.Francisco is nice but I think the prices are overhigh. more

Forte de Sao Francisco is a wonderful find in Northeastern Portugal. The grounds are lovely, and the hotel is decorated very tastefully. We hadn't planned to stop in Chaves but found this hotel by following its signs. It was one of our favorite hotels in Portugal. The staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed 1 night at the Forte de Sao Francisco. We had booked 2 nights, but didn't want to stay. The hotel is huge, the sitting areas smelled of smoke.It does have a very good swimmingpool.
