We spent 5 nights at Ickworth over October half term and everyone had a lovely relaxing break. Plenty for my kids to do (2 boys ages 6 & 3) including horseriding, swimming (at least once a day!) and bike riding around the estate. Ickworth is owned by the National Trust and guests at the hotel get the estate to themselves... more

This is a beautiful old manor house which sells itself on being family friendly five star hotel, within the Von essen group. Since we have luckily stayed in many Von Essen hotels. (Cliveden, Thronbury Castle and Sharrow Bay) before we were expecting a lot, especially since we were paying £400 per night. There was my husband and I and our... more

We've just spent 5 nights at Ickworth with our 3 1/2 yr old twins & 1yr old baby. The hotel setting is beautiful, and our rooms overlooked the Nat Trust gardens. The inter-connecting suite was very spacious with plenty of room for the baby's cot in our room. The children's facilities are fine, but not tip-top - i.e, creche in... more

The food is great in Fredericks restaurant and the staff friendly. Our two rooms were decorated in a quirky 60's student bed-sit style so not to everyone's taste, and the lack of tea-making facilities was very disappointing for all of us. There was no mirror over the desk to use for hair/make-up. I woke up each morning with back ache... more

We had a great short stay at Ickworth with our 2 year old. We weren't disappointed, the place really is child-centred and the (child-free) restaurant was really very good in the evening. Lots to do, very relaxed atmosphere and great creche if they want to play in there. Also great spa treatments. There are a couple of things that could... more

Arrived at about 3.00pm and had to wait until 4.00 for thr room to be ready but that was OK as we used the time to have a quick look around the National Trust property next door. We stayed in one of the appartments. It was well appointed with three bedrooms and a decent kitchen and bathroom and it was... more

This was my second time here at Ickworth, we stayed in the suite for a night with two daughters (who slept in the lounge on a fab sofa bed) Lovely location, nice food, great facilities such as bikes, pool, table tennis, trampolines etc. Slight niggle was daughter no. 1 bike was slightly shabby with a semi flat tyre which made... more

The idea behind this hotel is great (though at an enormous cost). Kids are allowed to run about at their hearts content. Good facilities for them and the outdoors are great. This hotel is dreadfully run down, with dust everywhere and a huge abundance of flies, loads in the restaurant-be careful not to breathe in!!!! The excuse 'it is Summer'... more

We stayed at Ickworth in the dower house apartment. We were plesently surprised with just how well they cater for kids. Our apartment, the Ludwig, was huge and had direct access to a massive garden that had loads to do in it. The staff are great and nothing id too much trouble and they cater to every eventuality. The advantage... more

My family and I stayed at The Ickworth Hotel, from 31 July to 3 August 2009. Whilst the location was beautiful and the trampoline, Bears Den and sports Academy meant very happy children and potentially a chance for us to sit back and relax while watching them have fun, the reality was very different. Complain and search for competent staff... more
