Afternoon tea was overbooked so we had to eat in the bar, therewas a large hole in the carpet on the steps, the tea and scones were brought to us and we never saw another person until we went to pay, not sure what we would have done if we wanted anything. I suppose the positive was that we were... more

This is what an English country house hotel should be however some spending is needed on the rooms and the tennis court has been terribly neglected. Great grounds and orchard. When dining room full, dinner takes a little too long. A special dish every evening would add some variety for the longer stay. Needs a pool to justify the spend.... more

We booked rather last minute for a birthday celebration, having enjoyed it many years ago. Everyone was friendly and efficient, and the house and gardens were well maintained. The atmosphere is altogether relaxed and cosy. The dinner menu was a little 90's but the food was well cooked, and service attentive. The wine list was excellent and very reasonable. Will... more

3 of us had afternoon tea... which we took in the hall on lovely couches in front of the fire. At first the hotel seemed really full and we didn't fancy eating in the hall way but the party left and we were the only people in the hotel. Our tea was prompt and looked very good... far too much... more

Stayed here for 1 night, and arrived in falling snow. Pretty hotel, and very pleasant sitting in a nice lounge with fire, sofas and resident cat - looking out over snow covered lawn. Nice top floor double room with small sofa and chairs. The evening meal was excellent, nice touched were a mushroom based amuse-bouche, and 6 small rolls (white,... more

We booked a gable room on the "winter warmer" tariff but were upgraded to a classic room on arrival. The good things about this hotel were the food and the friendly but unobtrusive service. The evening menu was varied and interesting and breakfast everything one could hope for. The room was clean and the bathroom spotless. As a country house... more

This is tricky - it's a lovely place, great, no fantastic service as it's meant to be but I've been to a large number of places where I've paid a lot less and stayed in a much better room. The reason I'm being negative is that prior to going when you look at the website it states "luxury accommodation" and... more

From the moment I booked at the hotel I was looking foward to staying here. The staff who took my booking were helpful, nothing was a problem for them. So I had set my standards high for the hotel....and they were definitely met if not exceeded! To start with as you pulled up to the hotel, you are met at... more

We were really looking forward to staying here, and our first impression approaching the hotel was promising; a handsome, well-proportioned house set in its own well-tended grounds. First problem revealed itself when we got out of the car - a low but constant background noise of traffic. Our hearts sank a notch when we saw the room - spacious, yes,... more

The hotels well presented inlovely grounds and the foods great too, it doesnt seem to busy which adds to the relaxing atmosphere. Well worth a... more
