We had 5 rooms (party of 9) for the ‘New Years Eve Celebration’. We choose Superior rooms, which I would say would be Standard at best in most other hotel, even taking into account it is a 400 year old building. The communal areas were very nice. We were sold on the wording “Featuring cream tea on arrival, four-course dinner, MUSIC and full home-cooked English Breakfast”. Whilst the food was very good, there was absolutely no New Year celebration! They set up a speaker and 3 lights on a stand in the dining room at 11pm and played 3 songs before turning off! At midnight, one of the bar men counted down from 5 to bring in the new year!!! Paying nearly £400 per room for 2 nights, it was disappointing to say the least! On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and it is a lovely part of the Country. In summary, a nice Hotel and location (if you like a basic room), but do not expect to have a party at New Year!…

First class stay at The White Hart again! Immaculately clean, superb customer service, great quality food and drinks at fantastic value for money. Highly recommended in every way. Special mention for Julie and her warm friendly customer service skills - a real credit to The White Hart, as were all the staff we met. Our third visit and it won't be our last!

I just wanted to extend our warmest thanks to the staff at The White Hart Hotel this afternoon/evening. Our car broke down on our way home via Mortenhampstead and after our recovery truck was diverted to a police incident we decided to seek refuge… we stumbled across the hotel and asked the staff if we could use their facilities. They couldn’t have been nicer, offered us their menu and basically said they would accommodate what we needed, lent us phone chargers and offered to light the fire in the lounge whilst we hung out and waited. Even offering a room if required. So grateful for your hospitality, cosy atmosphere and lovely bar snacks. We are home safely after a bit of an adventure but significantly less stressed or hungry than we otherwise would have been!! Thank you. Matt and Sarah …

We were a group of nearly 30 walkers. The hotel team could not have been more helpful, supportive, or better organised. Our meals were of a really great quality - large portions and way above the standard of typical pub grub. Service in the restaurant was professional and attentive. We had a great time.

Popped in for tea/ coffee for a break following our walk. Sat in the Courtyard as advertised,it was fairly busy and everyone bar ourselves were smoking. Not a pleasant atmosphere so quickly left. We were planning to come back for a Sunday Roast but after this experience we are not so sure.Hopefully the food is better than the Courtyard.

It was a pleasant enough stay but I think we both came away a bit disappointed overall. So to start with the greeting when we checked in wasn’t amazing, just not particularly friendly. However the room was nice, spacious and comfortable, although a little gloomy. The restaurant was ok, the roast dinner was good but we had to wait for other guests to put there order in first in order for the waitress to know if there was enough roasts remaining (we were residents but it didn’t seem to count / matter!). As I mentioned, the said roast was very nice. Sadly where the meal fell down was with the dessert which my partner ordered and he then wouldn’t eat because it was the worst sticky toffee pudding he had ever seen (and he has seem a few!). When my partner then asked the waitress if we could have it deducted from the bill on the basis that he felt it was dry and inedible she challenged him repeatedly stating that no one else had ever complained, she repeated this fact! Eventually she reluctantly agreed to take it off the bill… but nothing was offered as an alternative and service was definitely not with a smile in this case. Finally, the same lady (Eastern European accent, I’m not discriminating in any way just trying to point out who it was) was constantly chewing gum and again my partner found this pretty off putting. I should also point out that the lady on reception when we checked out (Monday am) was lovely. I just think a few tweaks need to be made to bring things up to scratch or maybe I’m just being an old fart 😀…

I went out with the family for this meal. I choose Trio of Sausages and Mash. When the waiter asked me what I wanted I said Bangers and Mash. Everybody else mains were delivered to them except mine, it turned out they had forgot my meal. I think that asking for Bangers and Mash may have confused the waiter, however if he did not what I meant he should have checked with the kitchen. Eventually he did get my meal. Some of us ordered Chocolate Mousse, I was sorely disappointed with this because it was runny it had not set.

Good value for a stop over. Room was clean and comfortable. Walls were thin - we could hear the snoring from the next room. We ate in the restaurant, service was good and it was reasonable pub food.

Well what can I say? Staying here for the night was not the plan, but a breakdown on the A30 and a fully booked travel lodge at the services led us here. The most unexpected treat of a disastrous journey. Last minute booking after frantically ringing around places, and the receptionist, Alison, even came to our rescue of picking up me my partner and two young sons at gone 10pm! Our room was beautiful and this hotel definitely had character! We’d love to come back (planned) and maybe kid free to explore the area :) Yummy cooked breakfast with a veggie/vegan option for me, and the boys loved their Nutella pancakes. Extended check out with no issues, and help with finding a taxi or bus back to the services to await pickup. Thank you everyone! We are home back in South Wales now, and you definitely gave us a beacon of light in what was an absolutely disastrous attempt at a holiday in Cornwall. Hope to eventually come again, in different circumstances. Diolch! …

We went because it rated so high on places for cream teas in dartmoor. The seating and service were nice. We had some lunch too. The chicken liver pate gave my husband all night diarree, my fish pie was a terrible combo of dry chunks of salmon, white fish and prawn, topped with dry mashed potato, and the scone that came with the tea was awful and dry too!!!! Why did we not send it all back?….we should have sent it all back to the kitchen! Pick another place for good food!
