It is good to find a privately run hotel that gets the job done right. The rooms are good ( The Balcony Rooms are worth the extra ) The location is right in the heart of the town but was not noisy. The Dining room reminds you of a bygone age the food is good quality without being over fussy.... more

After many years of stopping off at Lyme Regis for a journey rest on the way to Devon, finally got round to taking a short two day break staying at the Royal Lion hotel a 16th century former coaching inn on the High Street which is a short walk from the sea front. What a delightful surprise this hotel was... more

The hotel is a 16th century coaching lodge. Parking is not easy in the town but the hotel has it's own car park which is easily accessed from the front of the hotel. We stayed in a room with a balcony and a sea view . The room was modern and comfortable as was the bathroom..Everything was clean except the... more

A really lovely hotel, friendly and very helpful staff. The room was good we had balcony with excellent view over sea which was very clean and serviced every day. The meals were excellent. There is a car park at the rear of hotel. The beach is only a short walk away approx 100 yds. Would certainly stay there again. There... more

Have just returned from a lovely three night stay at the Royal Lion. Ideal location and charming place to stay. We had 2 'traditional' rooms overlooking the High St - both wood-panelled and spacious with a double and single bed. The bathrooms were modern, super-clean and well fitted. (rooms 8 and 9). Staff were friendly and helpful - even the... more

Its a classic setting of its era,16th Century building well preserved. The rooms are very comfortable,i had the balcony view, over looking the town and sea really beautiful in the mornings. We stayed at beginning of March for 3 night special package including B&B and evening meal - £170 per head - great value, this is a meandering old hotel/pub built in 1601, crooks & nannies all over the place, magnificent dining room, about 35 plus tables. All staff were totally helpful, regardless of the query/problem, well motivated. Food was excellent,... more

The Royal Lion is a good example of an UK hotel in a classic location that has moved with the times, whilst retaining its historic perspective. At the front of the hotel are the original rooms accessed through winding stairs and passages - but well proportioned and fitted out generally. At the back is a block of fairly modern rooms... more
