The Wild West. 29th. 30 & 31st Jan 2009 Thursday. The first night of our three night stay. We were kept awake till about 2.15 am because of two brawls in the street/club outside and underneath our hotel room. We eventually heard 4.00 am strike from the church, designed and built by Christopher Wren the architect, in the 1700's. Good... more

My wife and I have stayed at the Crown a couple of times a year for about ten years. We went back after a gap of about a year or so and were apalled. The refurbishment has destroyed the character of the Hotel. Reception for some reason has been resited in the middle of the dining area. The bar is... more

I had the pleasure tonight of staying to the Crown tonight and felt compelled to burst into print this evening. The hotel has an olde worldly charm with reception located behind a nice big old timber desk rather than a sterile bench. Reception was pleasant and efficient but the real fun started at the bar. Given that the hotel is... more

We booked the Crown because we knew it was the best hotel in the town. Room nice although we did book a slightly larger family room Recent refurbishment has greatly improved the public areas. Breakfast was the best we have had in a hotel for a long time Only problem was some noise from adjacent pubs late at night Menu... more

We stayed here for 2 nights. One would have about right. Reception staff were friendly and the hotel has undergone some recent refurbishment. That apart, it was an average experience and the least attractive, but not the cheapest, of the four hotel stays on our tip more

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for his birthday, having booked a tour of the local Hall and Woodhouse brewery (H and W also own this hotel). The hotel interior is immediately striking because it is beautifully old fashioned, with lots of dark wood panelling, heavy crimson curtains and battered leather chairs. Our room was small yet clean... more

Stayed over a long weekend, made fantastic by a rare sunny and hot burst of good weather. The hotel has a good position, angled to the main square of the town, which is mainly red brick Georgian. The rear of the hotel looks over the river and main bridge, with fields behind. They have put in a very well used... more

Ive stayed in the crown twice now, i was fortunate in that my friend was an assistant chef at the hotel and we often discussed the hotel and its workings. Its true what people say, the hotel has a very english tradition and the location is ideal for romantic getaways or business. The location is wonderful, its 8 or 9... more

This is a lovely English hotel in a country setting (horses are in a pasture accross from the hotel) The included breakfast is cooked to order and served in the hotel's white tablecloth restaurant. There is also a pub in the hotel with an outside terrace. The hotel has a free car park. for guests, which is steps away from... more
