My partner and I came to the schooner expecting a relaxing evening with nothing much planned, when we arrived we were told there was a ghost hunt on and a band who played 60's/70's classics which we love. We decided to check out both, although we didnt see any ghosts we had a great time and met some characters. The... more

Stayed 2 nights 31/12 and 01/01, we had 2 double rooms, our room number 31 was a lot better than our friends who were in room 32. To be fair our rooms were OK, I have been in worse( a long time ago). The whole hotel is in need of a very good clean out, the bar area is shocking,... more

Read the mixed reviews of the Schooner and thought I'd add another! The room was clean tidy and comfortable and thankfully warm on a really cold winters night with snow lying outside. It was a good size room with nice furnishings, a really comfortable bed and even a flat screen tv. Bathroom fine with a good size bath; my only... more

This was our 2nd visit this year and we had another brilliant time. We stayed in rooms 28, 29 and 30. All rooms were clean and warm. The bar area has been done out, now has lovely comfy sofas in the corner that you just sink in to. The bar is lively at night though it closed earlier this time... more

I found the hotel very disappointing and wrote to the manager to complain about my stay. He hasn't bothered to acknowledge or respond to my complaint, which was sent by letter and email to him two months ago. This just shows how little the management care about guest feedback. This hotel is over priced, with very poor service and I... more

We read the reviews and were a little concerned, but need not have worried. As has been said before the hotel is in some need of restoration but is very clean, warm, and cosy. The food in the bar etc was good wholesome pub grub, the breakfast was excellent, the Indian restaurant was extremely good, I had chicken with lemon... more

The Schooner Hotel is a tremendous disappointment from the minute you arrive, Greeted by the resident Rotwieler you park your car in the unsurfaced junk yard. We were expected to pay in full for out accomodation before being shown it. The room was tired and dated with an en suite with no shower or shower attachement. It was not cleaned... more

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay in the Schooner Hotel. From the momment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We were very comfortable indeed and we enjoyed all our meals from a varied and interesting menu. The joint owners deserve to succeed in thier task to modernise... more

Had a great two days stay in the 400 yr old hotel (and i think people need reminding of this fact - that its not a Traveloge etc). I got on well with most of the staff and found them friendly and helpful . Although the place needs updating, the amenities were good enough and clean. The Indian food was really... more
