We have just returned from Rona - what an experience! The island is only inhabited by Bill the manager, and Lorraine his partner. There are 3 cottages on the island for visitors, but nothing else - and I do mean nothing -no roads, no shops, nothing! You go over on the boat by prior arrangement (weather permitting) and Bill meets you with his quad bike to take all your stuff - including all the food you will need for your stay. You walk to the cottage which takes about 40 mins along the only track on the island. The cottages are fully equipped with cooker, fridge, etc, central heating and wood burning stove. No telly, no phones - nothing! The cottages overlook dry harbour. Take your torch if you want to be out after dark.
What is there to do? Walking (you need stout boots, plus wellies and waterproofs). I fell into a bog up to the top of my wellies, which is not unusual. If you love wildlife you will love this island. We saw sea eagles, golden eagles, deer...
