The Old Granary is a quiet family home in the charming village of East Lavant nestled in the South Downs National Park on the edge of the Goodwood Estate; convenient for West Dean, Weald & Downland Museum, Goodwood horse racing and motor events, Chichester Cathedral and Festival Theatre, Arundel Castle, Petworth and Uppark National Trust properties and Cowdray Park for the polo. There are many interesting walks on the South Downs Way and cycle paths in the area and West Wittering beach. Bicycles can be stored in the garage. There is parking in the drive for three cars. Guests are personally welcomed by the owner with afternoon tea by the fire in the drawing room in winter or in the small attractive garden in summer. The breakfast menu offers a large choice with locally sourced food and home made preserves. There are two excellent pubs within walking distance for dinner. Before moving to East Lavant Helen ran a 5* award winning B&B in Cheshire.

As a tourist it is often hard to have an unadulterated experience of another culture. As such, the Old Granary provides a foreigner with a unique exposure to the English countryside that should not be missed. As many have commented our stay began with a warm welcome by Helen with offers of tea and cake. The house itself is peaceful, beautifully appointed, with many cherished items. Our ground floor room with its en suite bathroom was immaculate, cozy, and with a view of the beautiful garden. The surrounding countryside is charming with many interesting places to visit, and it can be enjoyably explored on foot, bicycle or car. During our stay Helen could not possibly be any more helpful, with recommendations for restaurants and activities and going beyond by actually making arrangements for us. And her homemade breakfast offerings were quite expansive and included such rarely offered items such as Eggs Benedict. It is easy to understand why this B&B has such uniformly great reviews.

What a lovely, welcoming and comfortable place to stay and so quintessentially English! I felt so at ease from the word go. Helen is a wonderful host and it was lovely to stay in her home. The room was delightful and the bed really comfortable. I had everything I needed and it really felt like a home from home. I would recommend staying here most highly!

We came to Lavant for a family wedding, after a long drive from Harrogate we were warmly greeted by Helen who offered us tea and cake in the delightful secluded garden. We stayed in the twin room with exclusive use of the bathroom next door. The bedroom was well equipped with everything you might need. There was a broad selection of freshly cooked breakfast along with cereal and toast. If we are ever down this way again we would definitely stay at The Old Granary.

Gosh that is kind of you to do a review. I am so glad you enjoyed your visit and it would be lovely to see you here again one day. You had a long drive home in what I think must have been pouring rain but luckily for your stay it was fine and sunny…. June has been no scorcher so far! Best wishes, Helen

The owner, Helen, made us feel like we were a guest in her house, which we were. She encouraged us to utilize the gardens and the living room. She served us tea and sweets in the afternoon, and a full breakfast in her formal dining room in the morning. I highly recommend.

Thank you. It is always reassuring when guests write to say how much they enjoyed their visit. It was lovely meeting you both and great conversation. I much admired your walking prowess and your enthusiasm, even in the rain! Very best wishes, Helen

We stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting The Weald andDownland Museum, which is very close. We were warmly welcomed with tea and cake, which we enjoyed in the beautiful, peaceful garden. We had the smaller twin room, with the sole use of the bathroom next door. Both rooms were spotless, with everything we needed and plenty of hot water. The beds were extremely comfortable, a good nights sleep. The breakfast choice was extensive, and delicious. Helen was a lovely host, interesting to chat to, we loved sharing travel tales. We hope to visit again and explore more of the area.

Many thanks. It is always helpful for future guests to read reviews. I seldom ask guests to write reviews, some establishments push for it but I prefer to leave the decision to my guests. It was very kind of you to go to the trouble of writing a review and such a nice one too! It was a real pleasure meeting you both and I look forward to meeting you again. Best wishes, Helen

We stayed for a night whilst visiting relatives. The house is set in a beautiful location and is very homely inside. Helen is so friendly and helpful and we were made to feel at home straight away. Our room was really cosy and well appointed. The room and private bathroom next door, were spotlessly clean. Breakfast was amazing with a great choice of cooked along with cereal and toast. All in all a lovely place to stay and Helen is an amazing host. We will be back.

We stayed here for two nights while we were on a local walking holiday in early September 2021. Helen was very friendly and helpful - to the point of helping us to buy several large bottles of water after we had run out in rather hot weather. We enjoyed a really relaxing holiday here, in a lovely house with a pretty, tranquil garden. This is a great place to unwind.

Three of us were walking the New Lipchis Way and we needed an overnight stay. Lovely location in East Lavant. Helen was really hospitable. After a long days walk she had tea and cake ready and comfortable rooms to help us recover. Lovely cooked breakfast the next morning set us up for the final part of the walk. Well recommend the Old Granary whether you are hiking like us or just visiting the area.

House-hunting can be painful, but to stay in such comfortable and lovely surroundings more than compensated. The centre of Chichester is 7 minutes away by car. Helen was so welcoming, even phoning six pubs for us to secure an evening meal at the height of Goodwood Weekend. Breakfast was superb, plentiful and offering great choices. Watch the cricket on the village green if you can for the full Sussex experience. Unforgettable, highly recommended.
