I stayed at King John's Hunting Lodge for three nights in May 2009 with my Mother and Grandmother, to give Granny a break from looking after my ill Grandfather. it was a wonderful experience that has stayed with me, and was a tonic for all of us. Firstly, Margaret, the owner, is the loveliest, most hospitable of hostesses and her breakfasts were to die for!
The stunning hunting lodge (which is also offers a popular tea room) was actually built for King John in the 13th century, and extended in the 16th century, and is spectacularly interesting to architectural enthusiasts, being the oldest building in Lacock. The decor is wonderfully luxurious, and Margaret has decked the rooms out with luscious fabrics and antiques which make staying there a real treat.
I enjoyed three peaceful nights in a very comfortable bed, and breakfast was served in the charming medieaval parlour with silver laid on! Margaret's baking skills are out of this world and her hospitality is second to...
