My Husband and I have been for lunch and dinner here a couple of times and although we have to travel for nearly an hour to get there its well worth it. The place its self is lovely and clean, spacious yet very welcoming to everyone. The food is always spot on and the staff are very friendly and again... More

We make a beeline for House O'Hill whenever we can. Karen, Helen and Daniel are great hosts, as are the rest of the team - nothing is too much trouble. But most importantly they have a way with food that sets it apart from the usual run of the mill pub food. It's not over complicated, but immediately you can... More

Stayed in the cottage between Christmas and New Year and had a lovely time eating and drinking in this fine pub / restaurant. The people who run it are lovely - and know what they're doing - and care that it's a decent place to stay / eat / drink. It's just off the Southern Upland Way and generally the... More

Having just heard of this place recently we thought we'd give it a try. Glad we did as the surroundings, food and waiter made our lunch memorable. On arrival we were met by a young pleasant man who informed us to sit we're we liked and he would be over shortly. There was a beautifully decorated tree by the bar... More

House O'Hill what can we say second to none, fantastic people, outstanding catering and the cottage itself (Curlywee Cottage) was top quality! The atmosphere was brilliant we were so well looked after. Shared our exciting announcement of our engagement on our second night there and couldn't be more helpful whenever we had a query. The surrounding area is gorgeous nearby... More

I've only visited twice when staying with family, but as far as local pubs go, it's the best in Scotland and well worth turning off the main road for a pint or a meal! More

We have been down to House O'Hill for lunch a few times, usually following a long walk at Glen Trool just down the road. The menu features real cooking using the best of the local produce. We had the game stew today and it was outstanding, jam packed with venison, rabbit and pheasant in a thick and tasty gravy. The... More

While walking the Southern Upland Way we stayed at House o'Hill in Bargrennan and very much enjoyed it. The en suite room wasn't the most spacious but it was clean and comfortable. The evening meal of game casserole contained rabbit, pheasant and venison and was delicious. The best part was the people, both staff and customers were very friendly and... More

When I said I was staying at the House o' Hill hotel, I was told, it was under new management and I would have a great time there. I had stayed there twice, when doing the Southern Upland Way and always had a high regard for this walkers paradise. When I walked through the door, I couldn't believe the transformation:... More

Good places to eat seem rather scarce around Newton Stewart - this place is a very honourable exception. Excellent and imaginative menu featuring local food, very friendly and good real ale too. The beautiful Forestry Commission woodlands of Glentrool with walks and cycle trails just up the road. I'd say the room I stayed in was not quite as good... More
