Extremely welcoming and bike-friendly. Fab location for 7 Stanes and Sustrans Route 7 (Glasgow-Carlise) runs within 300m of the front door. Mike and the staff of the Bruce are working hard to build up this place's reputation for great service. We think they are doing very well at this - nothing was too much trouble and I hope to go... more

Sue and Mike are extremely welcoming and helpful and their staff as well. The hotel is being updated but, unfortunately, our rooms h were the last to be tackled. The food, apart from breakfast, is disappointing but, apparently, a new chef has arrived. Newton Stewart is not an attractive town but it stands in wonderful countryside. more

I stayed 3 nights this last weekend, arriving tired and late after a long drive. The staff were ideal- just enough attention without being OTT. Nice room- great view- which, with the bathroom, was spotless, if a little tired. Food was average to above average. Location is excellent for exploring this unknown corner of Scotland. But the staff were the... more

A small friendly hotel, with a great welcome. Food in the restaurant was well priced and excellent quality, and the service was genuine and efficient. The ensuite bathroom had been recently decorated, very clean and tidy. In the bedroom the bed was very comfy and the linen was crisp and clean. The communal areas and clean and tidy but the... more

Was impressed by the reviews prior to my stay and was not in any way disappointed. Proprietors are welcoming, friendly and attentive, and all staff were efficient and pleasant. I was part of a group staying in NS, but the only one in this particular hotel, and Mike, the owner, came and chatted with me in the bar, at dinner,... more

We enjoyed 3 nights at the Bruce. The service was welcoming, friendly and practical without being intrusive. The spacious room was clean and well appointed the only downside was the thin walls and heavy slamming doors. The Bruce Hotel catered very well and effortlessly with our complicated dietary requirements, an Easter Egg for breakfast (even for the adults ) was... more

We were extremely pleased with our 3 night stay. The reception and bar staff did everything they could to be helpful. We enjoyed our meals and our large room was comfortable. The owners gave tips for making the most the area's many attractions and, unsolicited, posted home to us an item unknowingly left in our room. A hotel to return... more
