The Imperial Hotel was very disappointing. Our rather small room was decorated c. 1980 and the shower was of the same vintage - and despite the fact that smoking in hotel rooms has been banned for a few years, it still had a slight smell of stale smoke. The welcome was friendly enough and when we asked for breakfast at 7 am we were assured that a continental breakfast would be left out for us - but we went along at 7 am and no breakfast. As I was about to spend the day doing a mountain bike race this was a dreadful start to the day. I can recommend that a good breakfast is to be had at the Old School Tearoom a few miles along the A75 towards Stranraer - but I cannot recommend the Imperial Hotel. The charge of £39 ppn puts it in a bracket with many hotels of a significantly better standard, and it seriously fails to match up. more
