Whilst Mum and I were on holiday in Skye we visited this much anticipated Inn. Each local we had spoken to said that The Stein Inn and The Old School House(Dunvegan) weren't to be missed! 'Fantastic settings, fantastic food and drink' - so you can imagine the build up! Unfortunately we didn't have time to go to the School House,... more

We had spent 2 weeks touring the Western Isles and finished the holiday with a 2 night stay on Skye in the Stein Inn and it was by far the most beautiful setting we had stayed in. It has everything going for it, but is badly let down by the surley and grumpy bar man and the poor service. He... more

We visited the hotel to eat only. I see that some previous reviews mention rude staff but we had no problem with our light meal or the service. The hot smoked salmon was tasty and also the rollmop herring. more

It is a nice place. Esp nestled in the middle of wilderness. But the people are not so welcoming. And maybe because we were the only Indians, they were not particularly warm towards us. And no restaurants close by - you will have to eat here in the restaurant which can be expensive. more

Stein Inn is Skye's oldest pub, with nice beers, great selection of malts in a wonderful setting. However, good luck with the grumpy unhelpful barman! more

The Stein Inn has many charms. Glorious location right on the waterfront in a tiny quiet hamlet on the remote north-western coast of Skye, overlooking the outer Hebrides. Charming bar and eating area and friendly staff. Great breakfasts including a particularly nice porridge as well as the full Scottish (the haggis is surprisingly tasty). A nice hotel for gentle bicycle... more

Beautiful waterside location, with plenty of outside seating so you can watch the sun go down. Our room was very large, with a super-super-comfortable king (two large singles pushed together)-sized bed. No bath, but a really good strong shower. No TV, but with a view like that over the sea... Decor a bit dated really, throughout the whole place. Nothing... more

It has long been the belief that the worst food in Britain could well be found in our motorway service stations but I have found a new contender. As a life long visitor to the Isle of Skye I am aware of the unquestioned success of this business. Perhaps this in itself is the greatest tradegy of my experience of... more

There is much to recommend this inn at Waternish on the Isle of Skye. For starters, its location is really beautiful, right on the quay overlooking an exquisite bay, and the approach, particularly around sunset, is quite something. The bar area of the inn has lots of atmosphere, particularly the settle right in front of the bar, which is cosy... more

Only visited for a pint and some food. Style is 1970's, pine panelling etc. could make a lot more of it by having lots artifacts and photos relating to Skye. Peat fire was not burning, it is suggested in their flyer that it always is. Menu was very poor, suggest you walk 25 yards further on to the Loch Bay... more

Thanks for your comments. The style of 'pine panelling' is in fact V-lining which in part is over 100 years old, but in any case is traditional to stone buildings on Skye. Where there is new V-lining, this has replaced old which has rotted through age and conditions. We also have a lot of stone walls exposed which are even...
