Me, my wife and new born baby decided on Barmouth for a short holiday and chose to stay in the Marwyn guest house. We stayed in the very top room named "Mon" and were told this was the most newly decorated/updated of their rooms. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable, bed possibly a bit soft for me. Flat screen TV with freeview in room.
The view from the top floor was very good, overlooking the beach and could just see Bardsey island. The breakfast was tasty. The best thing about the guest house for me was the people running it, a very nice friendly family, only too eagre to help with advice on what to do and where to go.
We enjoyed our stay, and would recomend this room, and the attitude of people running the business.

In my naiveté I didn't think that places like this still existed!
The place hasn't been touched since the 1970's, the carpets were literally threadbare, the tiles were cracked, the basin chipped, the furniture worn out, the entrance hall smelt of wet dog, the shower a lukewarm dribble and the beds were so bouncy and had so little support that I woke up with pins and needles in both hands and one foot!
If you're still thinking about it - don't. It was too bad for a bunch of builders, if I'd been staying with my wife we'd have walked out and slept in the car instead! Nasty.

The building was converted to a high quality hotel in 1980, hence the statement "This place hasn't been touched since the 1970's" is a lie. It is undergoing gradual renovation by the new owners. In the last 4 years it has had new double glazed windows, or new energy efficient kettles, new radiators, new bed linen and towels. In the...
