The hotel was full and the staff seemed stressed. Certainly a lack of happy smiling faces. The food in the restaurant was poorly cooked with the side salad akin to something sold in a motorway service area. As for breakfast - the kitchen staff were barely coping. Fortunately there were apologies from the waitresses for the tardiness of service. More... more

Just stayed at The Bear for the one night. It wasn't the cheapest but worth every penny. The service at the hotel and in the bar for food in the evening was excellent as was the quality of the food itself. The rooms had an 'olde worlde' feel going on which suited the surroundings and history of the building perfectly.... more

The Bear has come a long way since my last visits and many of the concerns I expressed have been addressed. This time I stayed in Room 39, one of the best and largest rooms. At over £150 a night I had high expectations and although not disappointed there were a few niggles I have been assured will be put... more

Based on their website and their various awards for , AA Pub of the Year, Best Pub in Britain, Good Food Guide etc etc my partner and I drove 25 miles to have dinner here. Well, from now onwards I an going to be very careful about putting any faith in some of these so called awards and recommendations. The... more

We just got back from a 3 day stay at The Bear Hotel. It is a GREAT place to stay! We prefer to stay at local-type accommodation and this was perfect. It is a B&B (but with more of an small hotel/inn feel to it) in a terrific location. Crickhowell is a quaint town in Brecon Beacons area of Wales.... more

Travelled up to Wales before going to Royal Welsh Show and decided to have a 2 night stay in The Bear. Got to say we were slightly apprehensive due to reading some unfavourable reviews but we sure are glad that we did not listen to them. This hotel is certainly the Jewel of the Brecon Beacons. On arrival we found... more

A warm and friendly atmosphere with no trouble to any of the staff in making our stay as relaxing as possible. There is amble parking and a cosy warm feel as if you being expected as you enter in to the reception The bar has huge character with wooden beams and there are three real fire. The bar offers a... more

I have stayed in many executive rooms throughout the country, and the £150 that I spent at the Bear was excellent value for money. The whole ambiance of the hotel and restaurant, created by the fine decor and charming antiques was excellent. I've stayed at the Bear many times over the last 10 years and can honestly say, that I... more

I recently had a superbly relaxing break here with the wife, just concentrating on eating, drinking, chilling out & a little light walking to counter the effects of the above! Have to say our room was spotless and very well appointed, with king size bed and olde worlde timbers. Though I'd agree that the bar is quite noisy, that surely... more

We chose the Bear hotel for our stay as we were reccommended it by some friends that have stayed there. When we arrived we were greeted by the receptionist who was extremely helpful. They showed us to our beautifully decorated room and gave us lots of information on the area. That day we had lunch in the bar and the... more
