I stayed at the Venetur Hotel Del Lago in Maracaibo, Venezuela for 3 nights in Oct 2007 for business. This is one of the top 3 hotels in Maracibo (a city of 2 million people), but by U.S. standards would be a 2-3 (out of 5) star hotel. Check-in and check-out were fine, but took about 35 minutes each. ... but I would not spend my vacation there. Positive things: Nice people, large mall next door, nice beach and pool (swimming only in the pool!). Beware of the old rooms - they have not been redecorated since the opening of the hotel in the fifties! Try to get a room in the tower (nice view over the lake) or... more
