We stayed at the Okavango River Lodge on our way to Moremi.

The Restaurant is located at the river, very nice and tranquil. Food is burgers and chips!

We booked a chalet with bathroom for Pula 300, but it was so terribly dirty and rundown that we decided to camp instead. It is a pity since it is such a lovely place at the river. Somehow I understand why the owners don't refurbish things. There were hardly any guests, so why bother?

Botswana is still more expensive than many countries in Africa, but at last it is becoming accessable for travellers on a tight budget, Okovango River Lodge is a 10 minute drive east of Maun city center, right on the river. This is a convenient location, as many lodges are far fom town and isolated.

The en-suite rooms are individual cottages set in lush gardens. The shower enclosure is large enough to have a party in! My room had a double and 2 single beds in it. The rooms are clean, plenty of towels and hot water.

The bar and restaurant face the river and are very popular with ex-pat cricket lovers, whose headquarters it is. The cricket pitch in immediately across the river. The food is plentiful, the portions large and relatively inexpensive. There is also a swimming pool.

I paid 220 pula/night for my en-suite single room in low season. I believe there are also cheaper rooms with shared facilities
