We stayed at this most excellent resort during an extremely turbulent time in post-election Kenya. I have nothing but good things to say about the owners and their staff who went above and beyond to make our stay as peaceful and as safe as possible. They are quite close with the Tourist Police and on one occasion I recall they went to pick up arriving guests at the airport with an armed police escort ensuring their safety. Now I know that one may not like to hear armed escort and paradise in one sentence but it was reassuring to know that they maintain a close relationship with the police and that insecurity was never an issue.

I chose this hotel because New Year's is a very lucrative and expensive time for most hotels on the coast. Salama had an incredibly reasonable rate for the season and it appeared to be a relatively new resort and I was willing to try out a different part of the North Coast.
