Le Kambary hotel is not as good as travel guides describe! In a first view it is a unique hotel with these stone-iglues as rooms, but due to the shape they get extremely hot (always choose aircon), rooms are full of moskitos and they dont offer net and the Swiss owner only pays attention to you when you are not... this was 1 of the 6 hotels I stayed in while in Mali (3rd night in Mali) the rooms looked like soccer balls cut in 1/2 so I would give the hotel some points for originality, although at the end of the day the rooms had no charm otherwise dinner was served outdoor in a nice little area with live... Whilst provincial Mali has limited luxury hotels, we were excited about the prospect of staying in this Bandiagara establishment with it's unique architecture. We were not expecting luxury from the expatriate owner but, given the hefty prices charged, decent bedding would be a good start. Instead we slept on threadbare sheets upon a thin foam mattress which was supported on... More

I loved the little beehive houses of the hotel and the room standard was very good for rural West Africa. Only drawbacks were that the rooms are quite dark, the acoustics are really terrible (especially sitting at the edges of the restaurant) and the pool had been taken over by frogs when we were there. But they (the hotel staff,... More

The first impression of the reception area of Le Kambary is that it is more attuned to tourism than most in the country. Notice boards on the walls show various maps, extracts from guides, information on local events, services etc. The accommodation looks like an igloo both inside and out. It is pure white, round roofed and devoid of any... More

Very attractive hotel with "Dogon " style bungalows in garden setting. Bathroom is basis but OK. The bungalows are noisy so you can hear your neigbours very good! (earplugs is a good solution). Little swimmingpool. Good restaurant. Prices are above Mali average. The owner arrange two days or more hiking along Dogon land with one night in a a dogon... More

I only spent one night in this hotel but it is a unique place. Each room is like a type of beehive or local oven, made of bricks. Inside the rooms are circular with a dome above, partly plastered, and the "windows" are lots of small circular apertures like portholes, which can be closed with their own circular plugs. The...
