The most amazing part of this lodge is the view of the Ngorongoro Crater. The exterior blends well into the natural surroundings. The food was good, not gourmet, but good. Live local acrobatic act in the bar area before the dinner hour. We did not have time to enjoy the pool, and the weather was cool and rainy for pool... More

There is no other place to stay if you are going to Ngorongoro Crater. It is truly an amazing view that is captured in this beautiful hotel atop the ridge of the crater. From the dining hall - you overlook the crater, see the sunset, from either inside or outside. Each room has a balcony which faces the crater. We... More

Personally I found the atmosphere a bit cheesy, like on a cruise boat. Obviously most people will like it... the happy hours with the finger food, the waiters everywhere, the lineup for the buffet... For me, what made the difference was the view! This is what they sell on their web site and man are they correct! The way our... More

It was built on the rim of the crater and it was built entirely of lava rock - every surface was covered by rock - inside and out. I was blown away by the massiveness of it all. It was beautiful. It offered all the amenities and comfort and service of all the other Serena lodges we stayed in. An... More

Great place to acclimatise to safari as has all the facilities you would wish for - great views over the crater, nice covered boardwalks to all the public areas, nice restaurant with great food and service for dinner and breakfast. I would only stay for one night as I prefer a more small scale place to stay. The crater is... More

This is a beautifully constructed lodge and when we arrived in mid Aprl, cosy log fires in the bar and public areas added to the sense that we were somewhere special. The hotel is decorated and appointed nicely, employing safari chique well. Our rooms were chilly and we were glad of the radiator and the hot watter bottles. Like all... More

My family and my sister in law's family have stayed at this lodge only for a night but we all were impressed with the hotel building that blend with the nature around it, nice room with the heater on (it's quite cold when we were there), great view to the crater. We were sitting outside on the porch enjoying the... More

We stayed here only one night as part of our African safari tour. I have been planning a return visit ever since. I would love to stay at least several days here. Ngorongoro Crater was my favourite stop of all the places we visited. Because the animals are forced to live in close proximity to each other and the crater... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Perched on the jagged rim of the crater, wreathed in morning mist, camouflaged in river-stone and cloaked in indigenous creepers, the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural fusion. Sensitively constructed so as to take nothing from its environment whilst affording endless vistas over the heat-shimmering reaches of the crater below, the clustered boulder-built buildings of the Lodge hug the crater rim, linked by rope-lashed timber walkways that skirt the buttressed roots of ancient, liana-hung trees. ... more   less
