After extending my 3 week stay in Cabarete to 6 weeks I decided to stay in a cheap budget hotel. A dominican friend of mine took me to an area just 10 minutes out of Cabarete called the Callejon where most of the locals of Cabarete live.The Casa Carmen is a small hotel offering room only or rooms with a kitchen at a cheap price especially if you want a long stay. I payed £85 for 4 weeks for the room only. Very basic but a bed and shower is really all you need. No A/C only a ceiling fan but the owner gave me a stand up fan and fridge in my room after a couple of days. The electricity is very erratic and goes off frequently but you get used to it and if you want to experience the Dominican way of life this is the best place to be at a bargain price. Set away from the tourist areas but only a 10 minute walk from the center of Cabarete or 2 minutes by motoconcho.Small stores and real dominican bars selling really cheap food surround the area and overall I had a great time staying there.A... more
