My one night stay in Gjirokaster was at the Kalemi, arranged through a tour company. we enjoyed the hotel quite a bit and the location is in a nice part of town central to both the modern town and the historical area and fortress. Gjirokaster is very hilly if you do any walking! The hotel is in a very old... more

Hotel Kalemi was my favorite hotel in Albania. It is a tastefully renovated Ottoman house and has true character. The owner and his family are very friendly. Gjirokaster is a great place to visit, especially during the folk music festival. Try the local speciality of fried spiced rice balls, excellent! more

When we arrived in Gjirokaster en were walking towards hotel Kalemi, we met the owner of the hotel and he drove us to the hotel. The hotel is situated nearby the old part of the small town (walking distance) in a very quiet neighborhood. The hotel room was super beautiful and spacious: the traditional elements of the old Albanian house... more

We really enjoyed the mountain drive from Korce to Gjirokaster. The views are just amazing. After a couple of nights in old Turizmi facilities, we did not have much expectations for your lodging in Gjirokaster. We stayed at Kalemi Hotel, a small family hotel on one of the hills. We were very lucky to find the property and driving there... more

By UK standards, this is a lovely place to stay for the princely sum of 34 euros for a double room and breakfast. It is right in the old part of the town and our room was very pretty, with traditional rugs and fireplace. While we were there, some guests had problems with noise, since guests on the top floor... more

What a charming place -- the 35 euros per night I shelled out for the Hotel Kalemi was considerably more than what I would have paid for at other Gjirokastra hotels, but the experience of being in a old, restored Gjirokastra home was worth it. The staff were pleasant and even gave me a crash course in the Albanian language... more

The Hotel Kalemi is in a beautiful location in Gjirokastra. The views over the city from the upper floors are truly spectacular. For this reason alone, I would recommend staying there, despite some problems. The lower floors of the hotel are indeed quite cosy and evoke a Gjirokastra of earlier years. The woodwork is simple but effective and creates a... more

My parents spent 4 nights at this hotel last year and enjoyed it throroughly. They stayed in room 2, which is the largest room with traditional ceilings and seating, as well as a large bathroom with tub. The breakfast is generous and can be served on the balcony overlooking the town in nice weather. In the 18 months my husband... more
