You've got to want to go to Amazonia Lodge to be anywhere near it. Used as a stop-over for many Manu tours, we used it as a final destination along the Manu Road as any further would take us into serious bug/frog hell (as seen by my wife) and this was the compromise.
And what an excellent compromise. The 10 minute boat journey from Atalaya sets the scene (as well as the scramble up the bank on our arrival). A 15 minute walk along a trail to the house through the forest and over a couple of rickety footbridges helps to cement the notion that you are in a remote place.
The Hacienda is quite large and in a large clearing and so there were few bugs around - plenty of birds though.
