We stayed overnight. While our room was nice, the bathroom was small at the price (Euro 150 per room). House overall is beautifully furnished in a scenic tranquil location. Our main complaint concerns the price and standard of the dinner. At Euro48 per head one one expect Gourmet standard. In the event we got badly prepared food; bland Salmon and... more

We enjoy short breaks in quality accommodation around Ireland and were really looking forward to staying here. The first thing to note about Balinkeele is that it is a good distance from Enniskerry. In fact, it is almost the same distance to Wexford town and is situated in a tiny village with no restaurants or services close by. This means... more

We spent three nignts in Ballinkeele and enjoyed every minute of it,we found peace and quiet and a very relaxing atmosphere. The house itself is lovely, imposing without being overwhelming, and with a lovely lived in and cared for feel entirely absent from most sanitised luxuary hotels.John and Margaret deserve a deal of praise for maintaining this property in a manner which has... more

This is a delightful country home away from home. Here one is allowed to roam free through the owner's spectacular house, coming and going as one pleases, whilst at the same time feeling very well cared for! It is rather like visiting favourite relatives! Our room (four poster) was a delight and very comfortable and most elegant. The breakfasts were... more

This beautiful country manor home was one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in Ireland. John and Margaret Maher were lovely, attentive hosts. The restored decor, filled with antiques and personal mementos, is elegant and at the same time homey. We felt as if we had stepped back to another era in our luxurious bedroom and huge ensuite bath... more

Ballinkeele is quite lovely and the grounds most impressive. More importantly, the House is more than aptly hosted by John and Margaret Maher. We spent one night in the master bedroom with its stately 4-poster bed and with a lovely view of the rear gardens. The breakfast served was well beyond what a regular B & B'er might expect. Overall,... more

It's hard to imagine anyone not coming away both impressed and refreshed by this gracious 19th century country house, painstakingly restored by the Maher family. From the roaring fires in the big sitting room to the pretty gardens and a master suite that surely rivals the Lincoln bedroom in the White House, this is country living at its finest. The... more

We stayed at the Ballikeele House recently and had a very disappointing time. Breakfast was poor with a limited menu selection. The evening meals were also not up to the standard of a hotel with the ratings that it publicizes. The bathroom and bedroom were both cold with a portable heater finally providing some much needed heat. The 'King -size'... more

I am surprised to hear that our breakfast selection is considered limited. We offer freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals, yoghurt, grapefruit, stewed plums, fresh fruit salad, porridge, homemade brown bread, bakers brown bread, croissants, homemade pancakes, homemade jams, comb honey, full/part Irish breakfast with eggs fried, boiled, scrambled or poached. There is also coffee (reg/decaf) or tea (reg/decaf/herbal/earl grey). We...

We stayed for two nights at Ballinkeele and had a fabulous time. The owners John and Margaret could not have been more welcoming and helped make our stay extra special. Yes the house is old (it was built in 1840) and the owners have tried to keep the place authentic so I think the previous reviewer was quite unfair in... more

Recently stayed at Ballinkeele House, which has been in the Maher family since it was built in 1825. A lovely house, in a lovely location (although miles from anywhere and very difficult to find). The hotel is only really staffed by the owners (plus one outside helper) and there is a slight feeling that they would not choose to play... more

Ballinkeele House is not a hotel. It is a historic country house and our family home. My husband and I have just one member of staff to run the house and we really enjoy meeting guests from Ireland and abroad. The décor is in keeping with a house of this period and all the bathrooms are up to date en-suite....
