After a long bone juddering journey, the dramatic setting of this hotel does not disappoint.. You cross an Indiana Jones bridge then walk through the scattered village to the river. Our room was a little off-putting at first glance with very limited electricity and basic furnishings and bathroom. No ants though, which was good. I thought it would be an... More

We went on a short vacation to Tangkahan for the Chinese New Year holidays. For us it was really a holiday meant to unwind and do NOTHING.. and be out of touch with the rest of the world to the extent that we didn't even have any sense of time (our only watch broke on the first day :))... jungle... We stopped here to see orangutans and the elephants on a 3 week tour in July 2012. After a long trip on unmade roads with fantastic scenery we were ready for a rest at the lodge. First impressions are that it has some beautiful scenery and promised a lot. The room was BASIC, cold water only but this was expected.... More

We spent 5 nights in Jungle Lodge and it was amazing. The bungalows are very simple - no hot water and electricity but you are in the jungle. The overal experience is great, place is extremely beautiful and peaceful. Jungle Lodge staff were extremely kind and helpful. Food was good too. We enjyed our jungle trek although we have not... I heard about Tangkahan while in Bukit Lawang, during the Lebaran post-Eidul-Fitri week. BL had become overrun with tourists and I decided to go even further afield to seek the peace I desired. Tangkahan had it in spades! Jungle Inn is a lovely small set of stilted cabins overlooking the river, with balconies, hammocks and room service! Well, not technically... More

I decided to schedule in a stop in Tangkahan after reading some good reviews and I'm so glad I did. The Jungle Lodge is definitely the placeto stay. The lodge is only accessible by a ferry across the river and the board the ferry one must cross a bridge that is better decribed as a balance beam. It's maybe six... More

We had a delightful 2 story wood and bamboo chalet with a 2 sided balcony and a view directly toward the river and monkeys and birds at eye level, 2 hammocks, nice rattan chairs. All in all a wonderful and relaxing environment. The toilet was flushed by dumping buckets of water down it and the shower was cold. No problem,... More

The Jungle Lodge is situated in a wonderful, remote location about 3 hours drive from Medan. The last part of the journey is 'off-road', crossing small rivers, passing through villages and palm oil plantations before reaching the small hamlet of Tangkahan and the lush rain forest of Gunung Leuser National Park. Getting to the Lodge from Tangkahan involves a steep... More

We stayed at the Jungle Lodge during our 2 weeks holiday on Sumatra. It was the second place we went to within the Gunung Leuser National Park. It is about 2.45 mins away from Medan and 50 km away from Bukit Lawang. The lodge we stayed in is just across the river from a park. It is set in the... More
