I stayed here for six nights while visiting my daughter, a Cal alum who still lives in the area to help plan her wedding this fall. I had stayed here before years ago and, to put it lightly, agree with the other reviews I have read. But, that was several years ago. Times have changed, and so has the management.... more

I have had occassion to stay in Berkeley on several occassions as my brother lives close by. The first time we stayed at the Golden Bear- the place could bearly pass inspection, and was completely worn out. We decided to try LaQuinta. It has been freshly painted, and looked newly referbished. The loby was absolutely beautiful. Our room was comfortable,... more

We had an ok time at first since every other hotel in Berkeley was a bigger rat hole than the La Quinta. I should have settled for rats since you can't bring rats home. Our room had BED BUGS... I should have known when I saw a small brown dot on the white sheets. I dismissed it since it was... more

I had to use up a one night comp for La Quinta and I just happened to be in the bay area so I thought I would give this a try. I wasn't expecting much from reading the reviews here. The place seems to have been renovated. Everything in the room worked properly - tv, refrigerator, microwave, shower, plumbing. The... more

We were evacuated at 1:00 a.m. from this hotel after a city fire department inspection revealed severe code violations, including inoperable sprinkler and alarm systems, stuck exit doors, and non-functional fire hose hookups. Hotel management was rude, unapologetic, and did almost nothing for the 100+ guests that had to pack up and leave. Need I say more? more

This hotel was just terrible. Our room had ripped carpeting, an unpleasant smell, and stains on the bedspread. Friends staying in another room had cigarette burns in their sheets. The common areas were clean, but the rooms are deplorable. You will regret staying here. more

You won't mistake the Best Western University Inn for a luxury hotel, but I was comfortable staying there for 3 nights. The first night I was in a room facing University St., which was very noisy. The next morning they gladly moved me to a back room; if one hadn't been available my review would be significantly different. The rooms... more

The motel was okay, but they kept running out of things. We stayed a week. There was no shampoo available for the first 4 days we were there. When we asked for it, they said they had none. They had make you own waffles for the continental breakfast. They ran out of batter for the first 4 days. They had... more

They completely messed up my reservation. And then were entirely unprofessional in trying to rectify the situation. No customer service skills. If you get stuck having to stay at this hotel because there aren't any others available, document EVERYTHING because they are always right. more
