Room 515. OK Very nice property, but just a pretty face. Room Service left out parts of our orders such as cheese on a cheeseburger. Housekeeping-Poor, Front desk staff could hardly smile. Food very good but overpriced. Very nice pool area, pilates room and GREAT Spa. I'd stay someplace else the next time. more

First off, this is NOT a 4 star hotel--at least not compared to 4 star hotels that I typically stay in. I'd give it maybe 3 stars. The Claremont is old, a bit rundown and has tiny rooms. The front desk people seemed snotty and apathetic. They will charge you an additional $24.00 per day for parking (despite the fact... more

The views may be beautiful, but the $24 daily resort fee is ridiculous. I refuse to support a hotel that charges extra for amenities that a guest rightly expects are included when the guest is paying $300 a night for a room. I have no idea what the resort fee was supposed to cover, but it should not exist. If... more

I'm a Berkeley alum and have always thought of the Claremont as THE place. I finally stayed there last weekend with my room booked by the university (I was participating in a conference on campus; I brought my infant and my mom along for the ride). Having read reviews here last year I had low expectations. They were actually exceeded... more

We live in San Francisco, and decided to spend one night at the Claremont because we were going to a show at the Berkeley Rep and decided we'd make a fun, East Bay night of it. We reserved a King Studio Suite (room 301) which had a fantastic view of the bay. One complaint though, the sitting area in the... more

Looking for a winter rejuvenation? The Claremont was a great respite for us. Looking for relief from Ohio ice (me) and from the pressures of studying in a cramped dorm (my daughter), we spent a weekend enjoying each other's company and the hotel. We checked in to room 107 and were delighted with the view - two big windows afforded... more

My husband and I stayed in Rm 215 for one night in this supposedly, Grand hotel. Sad to say, but I was very disappointing..When I made the reservation, I explicitly asked for a nice room since we were celebrating my birthday, anniversary and Valentine's day (since it was Feb. 11th). The room we were given had a good view but... more

Having read some of the negative reviews, I had fairly low expectations for the Claremont. I echo the complaints about being nickeled and dimed. Twenty-four dollars for uncovered parking in a suburban area is excessive, and I still have no idea what the $20 "resort fee" was for. The total bill was $260 for a double, which struck me as... more

I hadn't stayed at the Claremont since the Schnitzers owned the property. I returned because my child was going to Berkeley and I had such fond memories of this grand old place. Thankfully, the gardens and view are still gorgeous but the rest of it is . . . well, it's just sad. Waaaay overpriced and as someone said in... more

Very uninspiring. We checked in late Sunday after a horrendous drive over the siskyous. The clerk was cold and robotic. The room was fine but nothing special. Attempted to order beverages on room service menu and the first two items we requested were unavailable. On awakening the next day we threw open the curtains to a lovely view of the... more
