I loved the place and the location...it is the biggest hotel in Bhutan and loved the cottage and view from there...the climate was very cold making it difficult to be outdoors but could enjoy the room better. When we came back from dinner, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the bed had been turned down and also the best... more

We were booked to stay here for 4 nights. We were three couples. Originally booked to stay in the cottages, we found the cottages a damp with the carpets a bit smelly. The bathrooms were average too. So we moved into the suites in the main complex. My room was ok. I was given the executive suite. The room was... more

A grand hotel with a stuffed yak in the lobby. A little like sleeping in a dzong ... apparently this place has an interesting history. Bright coloured walls with painted adornments, although various details were very rustic, such as the wardrobe doors. I grew tired of hitting my hand as I closed the bathroom door: the knob was far too... more

We recently spent 4 nights at the Olathang in the cottages. The rooms were large and comfortable and the plumbing worked. None of the hotels in Bhutan included in the basic $200 p/n charge are terrific (I can't comment on the ultra-luxury hotels available for $750+ supplements), but the Olathang was the nicest of the 3 hotels we stayed at... more

My stay at this hotel was arranged by my in-country trekking guide. I thought it had unique character and charm. Much more up to date than my other stays in Asia (certainly exceeded my expectations). Keep in mind I do not personally book expensive hotels, I prefer a comfortable, safe place to sleep vs. luxury, 5-star locations. Should I returm... more

When travelling to Bhutan unless paying for the upmarket hotels the tourist does not appear to have much personal choice. We (a party of four) we placed in this hotel. We were met by our guide and driver at the airport and taken to the hotel where we were given a garden room. The entrance hall to our semi-detached garden... more

This hotel was booked as part of the "Gentle Trekking, Bhutan" holiday with Himalayan Kingdoms. As already described, it was built in the 70's and I'm sure it was state of the art at the time. However, we don't think it's had any updates since then... the plumbing in most bathrooms is terrible but it all works eventually! We stayed... more

This hotel was included in our tour with Bhutan Scenic Tours. They managed to get us a deluxe room in a cottage one night and a regular room in a cottage another night. Views from both were great and secluded. Both rooms were carpeted (but thin dark crappy carpet). Walls are all wood, bathroom is clean but not anything great.... more

Hotel Olathang was built in 1974 and looks rather tired! There are two kinds of rooms, smaller rooms in the main building. These are rather dark and gloomy and possibly noisy depending on how many people are staying. Or a two bedroom cottage in the grounds. The rooms are slightly larger and some have nice views of the valley below.... more

When you travel to Bhutan, you need a tour guide who will arrange for all your needs (hotel, meals, van with driver, and a tour guide) This is how the country operates (low volume and hi quality) and it works. Its all a set price of $200/day per person. So the key is to get a good tour guide who... more
