They are a couple of super-expensive hotels in Paro, but I would recommend this one. The owning family is so welcoming and Chukie-Om can coordinate your whole trip for you if you wish (we did this and it was great). The hotel has stunning views of the Paro valley, offers hot stone baths on site and is itself part of... more

Together with 8 friends, I stayed in Gangtey Palace for 2 nights at the end of our 8 night trip in Bhutan and it was our favourite hotel of the whole trip. Of course, we only stayed in "standard hotels" but this was a stand-out. Uma Paro and Aman just wasn't in the budget! I had specifically requested this hotel... more

Gangtey Palace is the former place of residence of a past Prime Minister of Bhutan. We stayed in the main building, which truly made you think you were staying in a small Palace. The rooms were very big, beautiful decorated in traditional Bhutanese style, the bathroom was large with modern toilet, shower and sink. They view from the Palace across... more

We made our arrangements directly with Chukie from the hotel who coordinated our stay and our tour guide. We were only there for 2 nights and were treated like familyI. Like another reviewer we also had the honor of having dinner with her family in Thimpu who are very down to earth and easy to talk with. Her father and... more

How's that for a headline? I mean - I am sure if I really 'picked at it' I could find fault BUT that would seem pedantic frankly. That is because I fell in love with Bhutan and the Bhutanese people and this Hotel was lovely. The public rooms were a delight, with views out over the valley. Fabulous huge stove... more

Well, after our original flight was canceled to Paro, we finally made it a day later and decided to just stay in Paro. Bhutan is an amazing place but a bit challenging to get everything coordinated. After researching places, we actually made our arrangements directly with the hotel which coordinated everything (as any tour operator in Bhutan). I think because... more

The Gangtey is located up on a hill overlooking the town of Paro. It consists of several buildings - two with rooms and also a restaurant/bar. We stayed here for three nights. The views are stunning and the layout (around an interior courtyard) is very nice. Beware: the rooms vary greatly in quality, from a gorgeous huge room with a... more

We had two stays at this old "palace" during our trip to Bhutan. The first stay we had a room in the original tower, the second stay was in the slightly more modern building. Both were great. The original tower dates back over 100 years and belonged to the royal family until the 1930's. Our room was huge, with thick,... more

As an overly traveled, blase person, it takes a lot to make an impression on me. Gangtey Palace managed to do it. Being there is an experience rather than just another hotel stay. It was a palace, belonging to one of the royal family in Bhutan. If you can arrange to get room 301, you will lay in bed viewing... more

Few people can say they spent the night in an actual palace. In that sense the Gangtey's lineage applies, but this is no top-class resort. However, budget travelers and package tours will find this a pleasant place for a night or two. The grounds are beautiful, giving a panoramic view of Paro. The rooms are rustic but well decorated. You... more
