Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. lovely view of the ocean. Close to plenty of cool things to do. Location is great. BUT Pretty much a run down hotel. You are paying for the location. WHICH would have been fine if the check in process wasnt absolutely painfully HORRIFIC.

Capitola is a small beach town about two hours away from me. This would be a mighty expensive establishment for my budget during the summer. But I've learned to schedule my trips in the off season. I went with family for one night in April 2023. These are small housing units complete with kitchens, bathrooms, living area and bedrooms. Bring your own food and have a good time laying on the sand a few steps from your lodging. The unit we rented was a two-bedroom. The check-in was smooth and the front desk staff was friendly. I wanted to support this town, which was heavily affected by the 2022 winter storms. Inside parking, proximity to the beach, location, amenities were all positives. Some units were dated while some looked newly renovated. I wish some units were pet friendly so I can take my dog for my solo trips. I recommend this establishment if your budget allows, and if you prefer housing unit amenities.

This is a quaint little place. It is strategically located in Capitola Village with the beach steps away. It is an older building- where the inside is dated. However, the bed was very comfortable. There are kitchenettes. But NO plates or silverware. They will provide this as an extra charge. We did not stay right close to the beach as that location you won’t have privacy and it’s noisy. The parking is convenient and Free!

The room is dated, the mattress is firm an sagging in the middle. The room has a complete kitchen, but don’t even think you can have a meal or leftovers in your room as there are no utensils or dishes. The location is wonderful, but for the price the rooms and amenities are sorely lacking. Sorry, I wanted to love it.

You could not ask for a better location. Staff was very nice and helpful. It is not a luxury hotel. But, Capitola is not a luxury kind of place. It is a delightful beach town. My room was vey comfortable, had a balcony with a great view of the beach. The bed was comfortable. Room was spacious. Kitchen was handy. All in all an excellent place to stay.

Spoiler Alert: Dump You can stay next door at the Capitola Suites for less money and a better view!!! The Venetian Hotel was on my friend's bucket list. We booked a balcony and paid extra for a view. We had a beautiful view of a building...the ocean was barely visible, considered "partially obstructed." The dissapointment continued for the length of our stay. The kitchen does not come with utensils or cooking pots, but many signs state you can pay extra to rent them. When we went to check out we were told, "Oh, you should have just asked." We did ask for conditioner/shampoo and extra blankets. Which for $430.00 shows lack of respect for the customer. We also had some preventable negative experiences, such as locating the black out blinds and thermostat. On check out, the desk clerk showed us where they were. Parking is available, and you won't need to move your car, but the lot is small. I had to be super careful manuevering my Ford Edge. (A Prius would be fine.) When we took our complaints to the desk clerk, he asked what he could do to make us happy. My friend stated take $100 off a night. He said he needed to talk to management and would get back to me. (That was a month ago) I did call several times and left my name and number. No return call. I understand that businesses need to make money, and I am willing to pay for quality. However, I feel I have been robbed...of money and time. This stay tainted my entire trip. I hope you read all the reviews and make a better choice than we did.

Such a cute hotel and right on the beach!!! It was great!!! If I had to try to find something negative to say, I guess I'd have to say that the bedroom is loud from the road noise. Other than that, we loved our stay!!! Thank you!!!

Manager who checked me in was very nice and friendly. As cute and quaint as the place is, it's OLD. Walking into my studio (room 127), the front door opens right into the kitchen counter with barely 4 inches to spare. I was aware of what was NOT offered; even though you're paying for a kitchen, there are no plates, bowls, silverware, pots or pans. You have to pay extra for those. The fridge hums and buzzes throughout the night. There was dirt in the tracks of the sliding glass door. The balcony has two chairs, but you have to sit sideways to make room for your legs. The walls are thin; you can hear your neighbors. No lighting bright enough to read by except over the bed. Boxes of shampoo, conditioner and body wash are attached to the shower wall; one was out of conditioner. Two bars of soap, each one thin and no bigger than 1"x3". There were no special amenities in that room at all. It was wonderful to sit in bed and see the ocean, but that was the only perk. Room rate, taxes and fees; total for two nights was $600.00. I will never spend that much money for such a shoddy room again, nor will I ever stay there again.

The hotel was really outdated and such a big disappointment. The furniture seemed 20 years old and was dirty. The bed was surrounded by three walls, making it very uncomfortable and hard to access the bathroom. The bathroom was super tiny, the shower was moldy and the toilet was in a cramped space. The towels had stains on them and were rough. We got a hotel with a kitchen to be able to cook, but there were no silverware or plates and the stove was outdated. The fridge froze our food. The door had a big crack on it and the cold air came in. The only good thing about staying here is the location, other than that it is a bad place to stay. The hotel is in desperate need of a big remodel. Sad a historic hotel is in poor conditions

We stayed here on the recommendation from friends who had been here several times. We got into town a couple of hours before check in and called the hotel to see if there was any chance we could check in early. Their response was essentially that your room is ready so stop by any time. They were very friendly and informative at check in and gave us some information on the local scene. Rooms were large and clean.
