What a nice stay. Three nites of quiet comfort. Gretchen, Doug and Makala are gracious hosts. Their cottages are like little turn- key homes. They served our lovely breakfasts in our cottage. Gretchen makes great quiches but her passion is baking so our muffins and the likes were really tasty. All was very clean yet had the warmth of the... More

We had our first stop at Carmel on our South West US tour and stayed 4 nights at Edgemere. A very good first stop. Gretchen is a very friendly person. The breakfast is delicious in a very cosy breakfast room. Location is perfect, just a stroll to the beach and away from the busy centre. we stayed in the patio... More

You are one block from the ocean so it's easy to walk the beach during the day or relax to the waves at night. Our cottage, the Devon, was spacious, well appointed and charming. It had a large bathroom and there's a full kitchen if you want to use it. (The cold pack in the freezer is mine.) Breakfast was... More

We can't wait to go back. Friendly owners make guests feel welcome. The beach is so close it is convenient for an early morning walk or run before breakfast. You can hear the waves and smell the salt air. The rooms have been redone with lovely wood floors, excellent fireplaces, and all amenities for a wonderfully relaxing stay. We had... More

The location was great. A block from the beach and 10-15 min to the center of town on foot. The cottages themselves were cute, but extremely functional. The best part was the warm welcome from Gretchen, who was very outgoing and generous with her time. We really felt welcome there and would be happy to go back if we visited... More

I visit Carmel at least 5 times per year and I keep coming back to Edgemere. It's a quaint and defines what an English Cottage experience can be. The innkeepers treat me like family and the breakfast is exquisite. Now, Edgemere is not really within walking distance of the village, but it's one block away from a secluded beach. Real... More

We just came back from a fabulous stay in Carmel. Gretchen and Doug were friendly and accommodating hosts who instantly put as at ease and made us feel at home. My 6 year old daughter and I both have gluten allergies and she has a nut allergy. Gretchen prepared a delicious frittata one morning, with fruit and hot coffee, and... More

My wife found this charming inn and we booked it for two nights right after Christmas. Our room had a nice kitchenette, gas fireplace, Wi-Fi, etc. Owner is most gracious, cooked great breakfasts, and even loaned passes to Monterey Bay Aquarium (saved us $70), which is a nice amenity! Would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

Carmel is one of those towns that's a rare find. Edgemere is truly a hidden gem in this town, a treasure that only exists in a Tolkien novel. Fortunately for Audrey and I, we get to experience the shire in Carmel. Run by Gretchen and Doug, this wonderful home has enough warmth for all the hobbits, dwarfs and elves of... More

Edgemere Cottages provided just what we wanted in a B&B in Carmel. We were on a quiet street but close enough to the beach to hear and smell the ocean with the windows open. Gretchen was a great host. Breakfast was relaxed and casual with good conversation and great food. We enjoyed wandering through the gardens and relaxing in the... More
