Spent a weekend here during a snow storm. Staff was really nice and gave us a tour of the castle. We got the lovely black room on the top floor. During the day, there are plenty of nice hiking trails to do. Hotel offers free coffee and cakes. Our package included lovely 3 course dinner. In the evening, one can play board games in the cellar. Breakfast is in a winter garden and is very abundant.

Second year that we spent the New Year's eve in this property (we took the two-night new years package). Loved it the first time, and loved it the second. Amazing organization, beautiful premises and very good food. Whether you join the proposed activities (recommended at least the first time) or you stay peacefully by your own in the castle, you are guaranteed a nice and pleasant experience. The owners are perfect hosts who know how to entertain guests for two days without being intrusive but neither neglecting things. All is organized beautifully and to perfection. I guess we could go for a third time...

We stayed one night and had the 4 course Christmas dinner menue with 1 wine and 1 non-alcohol wine pairing. Charming old estates comes with winding stairs no lifts and small rooms. This have all of that and more. The dinner was superb allbeit a bit loud as the wine started to kick in with the guests. The kitchen was complemented with equally good service at the table. I would like to come back and find that the Norwegia salmon was swapped with something more lokal, then the starter might be even better.

The castle is very nice, room is spacious and decently cleaned, and the surroundings are magic, particularly during Christmas time (when we visited). We booked two nights and the food and service was very good the first evening. We were promised a new menu the second evening, as the hotel runs the same set menu every night. That didn’t go well. The restaurant didn’t have control (too many guests and too little staff this evening), service was poor, we were waiting 1h45min to get the second course, one course was cold, we payed for 4 courses but ended up getting 3, we did get presented what we would be served, etc. In total, not a good experience and it significantly reduced our experience. We were in contact with staff during the evening and were promised a discount after complaining about the poor experience. The discount given was to not being charged for a wine package (we where sharing one wine package between us), i.e. four glasses of wine. Not what we had expected, given the price of over 6.000 SEK per night (room, breakfast and dinner).

There are a lot of Swedish manors and castles that have been transformed to hotels and conference sites. Thorskog is one of the best I've encountered. The castle itself - in a "cinderella" style from the 19th century - is well tucked away in a forest in good distance from the main roads. Extensive garden area with lots of beautiful lawns and paths to stroll. Lovely main building with stylish spaces for socializing as well as dining, having coffee or just enjoying the lavish interiors. There are rooms/suites both in the castle and in nearby buildings - the latter more modern of course, but still very stylish. Very comfortable large beds. No AC though. Staying at Thorskogs probably is a part of a "package" where dinner is included. We had such a package and the three course dinner was excellent; fine cooking and a small but well chosen wine list. A beef tartar with interesting flavours was followed by a slightly salted and butter fried "långa" (ling fish in English). Perfect pace between the servings. On the whole Thorskog is a great experience offering a very high standard. Four official stars, but I would say it touches five stars summing it all up. That goes for both the environment and the service delivered from the staff (with the small exception that the wines were served in the wrong glasses). Highly recommended!

Wonderful reception organizing food on the terrace (since the restaurant was full, ie not enough seats for all residents). But then got red wine instead of ordered white. And when changed got a corked wine (without getting to taste it or get the cork). So restaurant service not matching rest of the nice experience.

My room was in the castle, for 200Skr/person extra, and our room was called Ester. The room was big and with really comfortable double bed, you know the on with a “ravine” between the two beds put together. The castle was breeding history and ancestry from long ago. When arriving we were very impressed with the beautiful inside as with the outside. Really eye candy. The castle has a park area that was really impressive. There were lots of walkways in any direction in the park. Aside the castle there was a big pond with birds. In the middle area there was also a golf practice course and a putting area, short hole course but not minigolf. The bed was great and bathroom with shower also tiptop. We ate a fantastic 3 meal dinner with selected wine to each of dinner parts. Super. The breakfast in the morning was also a fantastic breakfast. Everything breathes quality from reception, indoors, room, dinner and breakfast. Can really recommend it!

The Castle was beautiful, both on the innside and on the outside. The service was excellent and the food very good, especially breakfast. We were upgraded from a room in the park to a room in the castle itself, which made it unneccesary to og out in the cold night. The sidebuildings in the park are a bit far away from the main building. Our room was nice enough but did not quite meet our expectations. After having seen pictures we did expect a larger more luxurious room. Our friends in a neighbouring room did not get bathrobes and had neither waterbottles like we got. But the beds were very good and the bathroom was fine. All in all a very good place to spend a night!

Me and my wife had a so-called romantic castle week-end stay at Thorskog slot. It was a birthday gift from my brother - and what a marvellous gift! It started with a delicious afternoon tea, followed by a pre-dinner drink where the owner himself presented the history of the castle. Thereafter we had a very tasty four course dinner together with an excellent wine package. The breakfast in the morning was as delicate as the whole stay. We had an elegant suite in the annex but there are also very nice rooms in the castle itself. There are good hiking trails in the surroundings and the park itself is very pleasant. It's about 45 minutes drive from the city centre of Gothenburg and it's really worth the trip. The castle is also well suited for larger groups for different types of celebrations. We can definitely recommend Thorskog slott to give yourself (or to someone special) a special treat.

Thorskogs Slott is in a beautiful area surrounded by stunning walks, historic monuments and peaceful places to relax. For our two night break, we were given a beautiful room outside the castle itself. This is our 4th visit and we have previously stayed inside the castle. Our room was In one of the surrounding buildings. What a wonderful surprise ! We had a very large room, beautifully furnished with a pretty outlook over the garden behind the pond. There was an extremely large bathroom fully modernised but in keeping with the atmosphere and era of the castle. The toiletries were generous and exceptional. Another real plus was that it was very warm during our stay , but with the open windows in both rooms , we had a wonderful breeze that kept us cool and comfortable. The friendliness and assistance of all the staff was first class, going out of their way to do anything they could to improve our stay. One day we did a 16 km walk, through a beautiful forest with fern covered ground, past a large dam/ lake - great for swimming - green fields covered with wildflowers, and then walked along the Gothenburg River. We ate our lunch - prepared by Thorskogs - under the shade of an apple tree overlooking the river- very special !! We then walked on a bit further to a lovely old church where we were picked up by another friendly staff member. The breakfasts were excellent with a huge buffet laden with everything you could possibly want. Our dinners were 5 star with our expert waiter/ sommelier explaining each course in great detail upon presentation. They have a really fabulous inside bar that also leads to an outdoor bar area with comfortable lounge furniture. You can also eat breakfast here on summer days. We loved it all and could not improve a thing. It is extremely good value for money. We are already looking forward to our next visit!! I rarely give reviews but after 4 perfect stays felt that I must! I definitely rate Thorskogs 5 star for Service, Cleanliness and Rooms !
